Thread: Light Reflection Idea

    Default Light Reflection Idea

I thought of an idea of how to get the brightness thats only at the beginning of the blade all the way up. Now I'm no rocket scientest here and I have not yet built a saber with Leds, so please don't kill me if it sounds stupid.

The light wouldn't go through the mirrors... You'd have huge a pretty spotty blade, much less how to mount those mirrors.

It is possible to do something like that. Technically, a person could calculate precisely the right angles of refraction to bounce the light to the next mirror and so on. You'd need a laser to help align the mirrors, since they'd have to be placed with greater precision than you could do with a ruler.

    Why would you want to?

You'd have black spots in the blade where the mirrors are, and the blade, when finished, would not be suitable for dueling, since a good strike could dislodge your mirror(s).

your blade would be zizaged if you did that, there would be colored lines through the blade but other than that it would be dark. also there is the problem of mounting and heatsinking the led at a angle incredibly precicly

I officially give up on this idea, Unless you guys have any idea of how to make this worthwhile or even possible.

Ewok your idea has been tried before. However instead of using mirrors either a clear polypropylene film http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/sa...p?TOPIC_ID=454 or a reflective Mylar film http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/sa...p?TOPIC_ID=273 is wrapped around multiple times and inserted in the blade.

In theory the light should be partially reflected by the film as it travels up the blade. The light effectively bounces around inside the blade with some of the light (but no all) leaving every time it is reflected off the film, giving a more even distribution of light. That’s the theory anyway. I haven’t tried it myself but would like to one day.

    That's the way Pete
(BTW Pete - you ever tried a "Tim Tam Slam"? - best thing Australia's ever exported!)

The film works well that way. I use 2 sheets and I buff a patch in the outer sheet right where the "dim spot" usually is, using steel wool.

Haha. Tim Tams are great. Not huge fan of the slam though. I prefer mine just how they are.

If you used a faceted mirror it would look incredbily bright. However a faceted mirror the size you would need would cost about $800
