Thread: How do you secure your soundboard?

Default How do you secure your soundboard?

I've noticed that when I fool around with my saber it'll suddenly turn off completely before turning back on again straight away which got me to thinking; my soundboard is hitting the hilt a bit hard causing it to switch off from the shock. So I thought about how to secure my soundboard so when it touches the hilt, it won't turn off.

I was wondering if any of you have some tips or tricks that could help? I was thinking of wrapping the board in electrical tape but I'd rather get a second opinion first.

Oh and I'm using a petit crouton soundboard

Your soundboard isn't just floating around in your hilt is it?

You should never leave any board just kinda floating around in there, even if it's a cheapo hasbro board. One of the most common ways is to make a chassis out of pvc pipe, there are several threads here about various ways to secure parts.

If your parts are in a chassis already and are touching the inner walls, I'd break out a hot glue gun. If you don't plan on using the soundboard for anything else than this saber, star thermal pads found in the store can make a handy way to secure a board and not have it move.

Err yeah it is just floating in my hilt. Last week when I put in a few upgrades I moved the wires away to another area to free up the area around my board. So this thermal tape, do you mean to wrap around the whole board?

No. You never, ever, ever, ever, just leave a board floating (Chris Tucker's voice), you can damage it.

Cut at least a piece of PVC pipe to fit inside of the saber, cut a space in the piece big enough for the PC, so you can attach the board to something, you don't want it floating around at all.

I'm using an economy board in my mhs and made a sleeve from 3/4 inch PVC pipe that fit's nicely into my choke with some tape on either end of the PVC to keep the sound card from sliding down.
