9 v battery hookup

how to connecwt from 9v you know those rectangles how do you conncet those with a power swithch only

you hook the positive up to the switch, then to the resistor, then to the led, then back to the negative. (i might of gotten the switch and resistor mixed up)

I usually hook up the one thing to the other thing, with that little thing in between. Or maybe it's the other way around...
