Leather/Tissue work

This is a first for me. I'm looking into building a saber for my brother for his birthday.

Thinking Rham Kota style with the katana braid style.

My main question... How the heck do I do the leather/cloth braiding??? I have no idea what it is, how it's made or heck... What I need. Heck my searches come up with mediocre results.

Ive seen a few good ones (I think JudgeSaberSmith did a really good one.. and maybe LDM? off the top of my head)..

Yes iv been looking and all the one's i find are simply cloth/leather that wraps around which is NOT what i want.

The build will be very simple which is why the wrapping will be critical.
