Sure, take the new screw together hilts (I'll use them in this illustration because being screwed together I imagine they'd be really secure) and drill a hole in the pommel. Use that hole to put in a nut and bolt attached to the chain, repeat for other saber.[]

It sounds like a painful thing to use. I would just be worried about the part you swing being too heavy.
