I've started the crystal growing process today, and I will check its progress accordingly. Im mainly doing it to forge hard and rugged-looking crystals with a red coloration. (the main Synth crystal.) I want to get some clear quartz, which i found some good sizes in bulk for 6$. (focus crystal that i may use an LED to color)

i have looked into this and have noted that they dont last forever, why not coat them in resin or super glue would act like the enamel in your teeth. Good luck

Yeah I did find out that they don't last forever. but it would still be a cool mini documentary to showcase my progress, or at least use in a fan film to represent synth crystals that were made by a reckless apprentice or without care, would not last long. (Tryin to make lemonade out of lemons)
I am in the process of getting some crystals online, as a back up

So yes, indeed, the experiment was an epic fail. The crystals were forming, but were not stable enough to be placed inside anything to hold them together.. At least I tried. But I need to find some good crystals. Preferably red, green, blue, and yellow. Some that give off beautiful illuminations with LEDs.. If anyone can help direct me on this site or have a few good links, it would be appreciated.

Hit up Google for some new-age hippie healing crystal sites. There's quite a few out there with decent prices.

As an FYI, you can get synthetic corundum (rubies and sapphires) for pretty cheap, even cheaper if they're uncut and unpolished.
We all have to start somewhere. The journey is all the more impressive by our humble beginnings.

I remember years ago that Micheal's craft store carried quartz crystals but haven't seen them in recent visits. Got 9 of my 10 from there.

The big one on the right end I got else where. (yes the one under the mouse pad of my laptop is broken. may use it for a damaged saber)

I was looking last week went to two hobby stores and nothing, went to a jewelry store and they had one but it had a big base on it and they wanted $15 for it then found a new age store about 4 miles away and jackpot! I was looking at some crystals and a lady was like did you look in the $1 bin and there was a crap load of them in there so I got ten crystals for $10 !

Very nice selection of crystals! And broken ones are still of great value to us.. haha

Im working on building a synthetic crystal chamber similar to Darth Vader's, but that's gonna be part of my lightsaber internal build. It's just gonna be an internal build of a lightsaber as accurate as I can make it to the star wars universe.

And as for the crystals at very low prices, I think I may have found a place.. Its a random antique store, and they have some but I didnt have any money. They have alot, but I was kind of in a rush to go somewhere, so I didnt get to inspect them. they were pretty decen-sized though.

On the gem side rather than quartz, besides red and blue corundum [ruby and sapphire] there is also garnet for red...topaz from sky to London blue...peridot for lime to olive green...amethyst for purple...citrine for lemon to deep amber yellow and padparadscha for firey orange...I just ordered a beautiful orange synthetic padparadscha sapphire off Evilbay. Affordable natural faceted gems tend to be smaller but thats not always bad if you are building double or triple crystal [like in KOTOR] chambers and if you look for ones with lots of inclusions [considered low quality for jewelry use but good for catching light in our crystal chamber use] that can help with price or alternatively you can find larger synthetics or unfaceted roughs either natural or synthetic...I'm watching some really nice semifaceted peridot now that would be great for a green saber.
