Thread: LED basic electronics kit

  1. #1

    Default LED basic electronics kit

Does the LED basic electronics kit come with all the wiring I'll need to build a saber? What about heatshrink?

I guess what I'm asking is, assuming I build a saber off the MHS builder page, complete with every extra option available there, will I need anything else besides tools?

Well... the battery pack and switch have a certain amount of wire already on them. (look at the MHS LED tutorial) Unless you're going to need to go a longer distance or botch the wiring job and have to cut them shorter you should be able to deal with what comes with it.

If you don't feel confident it's not really an expense to add a foot of wire on either.[]

Alright, then. I'll grab some extra wire. What about heatshrink? How much of that should I grab?

If you're over zealous in your use of it (you only need to cover the exposed wire) you might need 4-5 inches. A foot would be more than enough.

you really only need 1 inch of it for 1 soldered joint.

Okay, and does it matter if I get 1/8'' or 3/16''?

the difference is only 1/16 of an inch, it doesn't really matter but since it is so cheap you could just get 1 foot of each

Actually it does matter. For one wire the 3/16" heatshrink won't get small enough. It has it's limits for shrinking and the 1/8" is best for one wire like you'd do if only doing the basics. If you were heatshrinking two wires the 1/8" would hardly get the wire in there while the 3/16" is a breeze.
