Thread: PNP Transistor Question

    Default PNP Transistor Question

I'm researching what I need for using an Obi Econo 2010. One thing I can't seem to find solid information on is why the TIP42G PNP transistor is suggested for use as opposed to other versions of the TIP42. I've seen builds that have used TIP42C, but have also read a thread where someone asked about using a TIP42C and was told to use the TIP42G instead, but no real explanation as to why. So my question is what is the difference between the different versions A, B, C, G, etc., and why is one better to use than another?

The different designations will support higher voltages. 42G supports about 40v, while the 42C will handle 100v. Both will do the job just fine. It's usually easier to find the 42G at Radio Shack, so I'm assuming that's the main reason it's being recommended over the other.
We all have to start somewhere. The journey is all the more impressive by our humble beginnings.

Awesome, thanks. Well, considering that I can get 10 of the 42C on eBay for less than the cost of 3 42G from RadioShack, I think that's what I'll use.

Thanks I've used both and both worked, but I had no idea of the difference
