Thread: sleek/simple looking switch that will also help hold inner PVC chassis to sink tube?

Default sleek/simple looking switch that will also help hold inner PVC chassis to sink tube?

this is actually a two part question:

i was thinking, for the saber i'm building i want it to be able to ignite ergonomically easy in both a standard hold as well as a reverse grip.
i was planning on mounting some kind of a switch in my control box towards the emitter end, but i was also wanting to add a switch that will do the exact same thing functionally to the lower end of the hilt.

    part 1 of question:
would i simply solder the pos/neg wires of both switches to the exact same paths?
    maybe just splice them together?
    so basically:
if i click switch one, it turns on, click switch one again it's off
if i click switch one, it turns on, click switch two it's off
if i click switch two, it turns on, click switch two again it's off
if i click switch two, it turns on, click switch one it's off

    part 2 of question:
i'm mounting the sink tube over the PVC with two button head screws in two different parts of the hilt.
as it stands now this is more than stable. it's very solid.
that being said, if i replaced one of the button head screws with this switch: http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/Pu...tton--P40.aspx
    would that be sturdy enough?
my concern is that these switches are plastic, not metal and won't be sturdy enough?

what kind of saber is this? Stunt? Sound?

    1) yes
    2) it will work, but personally I wouldn't build it like this. If you must have the switch there, I would suggest you put another button head hole next to it for stability.

    sound

    1. AWESOME, thx
    2. cool, i'll keep the existing button head screw as is and simply add the switch beneath it then. it'll look a bit more cluttered than i'd like, though. so i'll have to really think about it.

    thx again

If you're using momentary switches, yes you can just wire in multiple switches like you described. If you need to use a latching setup, you'll need a three-way switch setup.

Those plastic switches aren't exactly sleek, either.

And if you don't use some sort of shim under it, it will stick out too far from the hilt.
