Thread: Sink Tube over the MHS.

  1. #1

Default Sink Tube over the MHS.

So I took my MHS with me to Home Depot so I could properly fit some rubber O-rings. Which by the way snazzed it up quite a bit. Anyway...I walked on down to the sink tube area, picked up a 1 1/2" sink tube(which supposedly the mhs fits into) and slid my MHS into it. Well..it scratched it up fairly well. So my question is...how do I shine it up (what sand paper and polish), and how the hell do I get an outer sink tube on without it scratching the holy hell out of my aluminum MHS? I was pretty careful and it still scratched.

    Thanks []

My buddy has a metal etching tool that he's going to let me borrow, so that's why I was testing out the sink tubes. Gonna have on of my friends with a BA to draw me up a nice design to etch into it.

i think you use 1200 grit sandpaper but i'm not sure

My experience and recommendations for sliding a sink tube over the MHS:

    1) Make sure that both parts are totally clean. Send a rag through the sink tube, especially.

    2) Make sure that the open end of the sink tube being slid ahs been sanded down. This is usually the biggest problem-causer.

    3) Because it is such a perfect fit, there is barely enough room for a couple layers of paint, and a sink tube. Expect some scratches. But go VERY slowly, to try to limit any damage.

    4) If need be, slid on the sink tube, and do the sanding, polishing, and any painting AFTER.

I hope some of these tips help. Good luck!

You can use some 1000 grit sandpaper then a good metal polish to restore your mhs, with some good polishing you can make it really shine.

You can't really do any of that when you are fitting sink tubes at the hardware store though. That's where the trouble begins, with getting scratches on your hilt. If you want to make sure a sink tube will fit before you buy it you're pretty much screwed, the hilt's gonna get scratched.

    Ahhh, yes. Very true.

Accept the strong possibility of scratches when test fitting parts.

so just buy a bunch of different pipes, take them home and try them out. then return the ones that don't work

You could also buy the sink tubes from me which are far better quality and cost less than the ones at lowes/home depot.
