Thread: 1-3/8" chrome end cap not flush with 1-1/2" sink tube

Default 1-3/8" chrome end cap not flush with 1-1/2" sink tube

I bought a 1-3/8" chrome end cap to pop onto the end of my 1-1/2" sink tube and it just kinda sits into it.
it fits in that the prongs slide into the tube and it sits against the diameter of the tube, but if i were to hold the tube any way but with the cap on the top, the cap would just fall out.

i've tried a 1-1/2" chrome end cap as well and the prongs on that one wont' even fit inside the 1-1/2" sink tube at all.

i'm thinking of simply soldering the 1-3/8" chrome end cap onto it.

    thoughts?

Have you tried bending the prongs outward a little bit so they press against the inside of the sinktube? That should fix it.

Yep, you need to bend out the prongs.

The 1 3/8" end caps have a better looking, more flush fit than the 1 1/2". They don't hang over the edge of the sink tube like the 1 1/2" one does.

You'll probably face palm yourself once you realize how easy a fix it is.

Even with the prongs bent out the caps have a tendency to fall off...

I just add some JB weld to those puppies... Never will they come off now.

I never had a problem with the end cap coming off my sink tube EL saber.

    Just sayin'.

But maybe that's because there was only a single 9V battery in it.

    I don't know.

I also NEVER had an end cap pop off.. but (as j-lo pointed out) our sabers were rarely filled with more then an inverter and a couple 9v's (stuffed with foam from sponges to keep the rattles down.. yes things were very basic back then).

I would caution against the permanent attachment of ANYTHING on a saber (if anything use a "shoo-goo" type of flexible glue or just a spot of hot glue).. also unless you have a threaded pommel you shouldnt rely on the endcap alone to secure the electronics(that could turn out really bad).. use something (or a hidden set screw or something as an anchor) to hold your internals in place and you should be fine!

yeah i won't mind permanently setting this

because the handle portion of the hilt is actually going to be sleeved over PVC and attached via set screws to the PVC at the top of the handle rather than near the pommel.
