    Sure they can. You just have to PUSH harder.

    There is a reason why most diodes list their reverse voltage.

    Luxeon and Ledengin don't even LIST their Vr in their technical specs. They both say "these LEDs are not designed for reverse bias operation"

    That means "please don't"

    Looking at some other LEDs online that do publish their Vr, its generally about double the forward voltage.

    So, no problem if you're using a 3.6v pack, but if you accidentally put 7.4v pack to a red LED in reverse, damage is possible.
