Post Vilpuus 1st custom and some questions

    Hi,

    just finished my first custom:

    Parts:
    - Empty hilt from JK-Sabers
    - Huey Jann 5W blue LED
    - PC-L Lightmeat
    - Samsung 18650 protected 2600mAh
    - very small and short momentary vandal resistant switch
    - small momentary AV switch for the FX
    - TCSS speaker with chassis
    - TCSS trans white thinwalled 1" blade 36" length with a little diffusor wrap
    - standard recharge port

Recharge port under small circuit board:

A small demonstration video without comments:

The hilt is made of one large tube, so it is very tricky to put everything inside.
That´s why there is no chassis for the electronics at the moment.
I haven´t decided if I put another (brighter) LED.

The Huey Jann is as bright as my P4, but has a darker hue and needs 1400 mA.
I like this dark hue and want to keep it if possible.
I was thinking of a Ledengin 5W blue or a 10W BBBB, but then I need more than one cell.
Would you recommend using 4 unprotected 14500?
2 in parallel and these 2 packs in series?

How to realize the recharging and PCB then?
    2x 18650 wouldn´t fit.

And another question about the PC-L.
Do I need a resistor for a red LED at 2.7V?

as stated in the manual and dozens of times across the board, the PC-L auto senses the LED voltage and gives it constant current based on the setting you put in the config file.

very nice looking saber. especially the hidden recharge port. how do you do the killkey though? that board kinda needs one of some sort...

as for your battery configuration question, i'm working on a Li-Ion tutorial, so i'll try and answer them all in that.

    Thank you.

I just wasn´t sure about the auto-sense of the voltage, especially below 3V.

Cool little hilt, Ben. I like the use of the Activation Box as a hider for the recharge port. How does it handle with the buttons in the locations where they are?

    Thank you Boj-Vaati.

If you´re used to hold and use the lightsaber like a katana, it is working great with the buttons.

I´ve tested the handling last weekend in a wild unstructured fight.
My lightsaber had been deactivated one time, although A-POP is set.
This I really didn´t expect at all.

But my opponents were using a modified Anakin FX and a modified Obi-Wan RotS FX and both have been accidentally deactivated many many times.

It's begging for a D-ring on the pommel. I love the classic feel that this saber exudes.

I like the emitter and it sounds as if your "kicking butt" and taking your friends names so gj

Yesterday the green 5W Huey Jann LEDs finally arrived and I put them into my custom.

OMG, these are bright and provide a nice green!!

The P4 has a lite minty green, while the Huey Jann has a more saturated darker green.
But find out yourself, batteries both fully charged, both blades TCSS trans-white 1" thin walled with same amount of diffusion wrap.

P4 in a converted Obi-Wan FX (detachable blade version) powered by 3 AAA Sanyo Eneloop:

    Huey Jann with PC-L @ 1500mA powered by 1 Samsung 18650:

Because flickering is activated on the PC-L, it looks like it is uneven in the upper area.
But watch the video and you´ll see it is only on the pics.

    Together:

    Look at the poor P4

    And a small VIDEO:
