Cool...set screws under the trim rings makes perfect sense. The threads looked shorter since the trim rings must have loosened when you removed the double female. Regarding the bare grip I can see why you wouldn't want to distract from the rings and v-grooves.
Great looking saber, I actually like the practical plainness of the bottom half grip would be great for getting a firm hand grip on, love it!

Great piece of work, love the clean lines. The only thing I personally would have changed is the grip end, I would have put a few bands of knurling on there for grip, but that is just my thoughts. Great job.
