Thread: Idea for removable String Blade

Default Idea for removable String Blade

I search this forum alot , to see how others do things, get some ideas or improve in some methods.

Now i'm waiting for shipping on some new LEDs. i hate being idle so i had an idea on making my string blade removable.

Male and female 9pin D-Sub Connectors. Not sure what method i'll use to keep the one in the blade secure. Probably wont need much as i wedged it in there and the connection between both does not require much force.

I was thinking of using a Retainer clip to keep in place but allow it to spin so when i screw the blade holder in it wont twist the wires.

The connector protrudes 4mm , the same as the female end on the blade. So the Tube will sit on the inside edge of the blade holder as normal. Simple retension screw holding the blade in place.

Sounds like a good idea. Two little things though...

    1. I am assuming you are going to use all of the pins of the connectors. Have you figured out how you will be doing that?

    2. If you wanted to secure the male plug, you could simply twist the wires the opposite amount of turns you need to secure your BH in the hilt. I have done this with several builds and it has worked great.

Just some of my thoughts on the project...

#1 - do you mean how will i attach the wires from the blade itself to the connector?

#2 - i tried doing that with my crystal chamber but the space between the chamber and Switch is really short. So i just loosened one retaining clip (letting extension spin freely) on opposite side of the chamber , screwed extension into the hilt, then tightended clip. So i figure the same method will work here but leaving the clip on the connector loose all the time. The blade being very snug and having retension screw in it , will keep it from moving.

Thats the idea that most use for removable strings.
A lot of people use round plugs though, but this should work just as well.
