Thread: power extender

    Default power extender

Hi, sorry if this has been covered but i couldnt find it. Can you use the power extender plus a resistor with the econo hasbro board instead of a transistor and buckpuck?

    Default

Yes. The power extender will do the job of the transistor. Resistor or buckpuck can be used with either configuration. The PEX costs more than a PNP transistor, which is why it's not normally used with a budget setup.

Transistor and resistor is the least expensive way to do it.
We all have to start somewhere. The journey is all the more impressive by our humble beginnings.

Thanks, i wasn't sure if you could go resistor with transistor, thought you needed puck which is more expensive. If running a ledengin can you get away without resistor running the 1.5A from the pex directly?

No, the PEX doesn't regulate current. You'll need a resistor with it.

Thanks. So what are the benefits of the pex?
