So does this mean that everyone in this hobby who doesn't have a crystal focus is an amateur?

no - but if you're not good at soldering or wiring or metalshaping of some sort, then yes. you also need to create a single work of art, and slothfurnace is the current resident judge of that since he spends so much time in the chat box with us. ^_^

I always use the sports definition for amateur and professional. The professional gets PAID. Quality doesn't really enter into the amateur/professional equation. That being said, those pictures are really nice! I woke up in time for the lunar eclipse, but missed it due to full cloud cover and a really warm bed.

Haha. Very true Silver. I DEFINITELY do not get paid for my photos. I just like the challenge of it all and my reward is taking something good enough that I might frame it and put it on my wall.

Azmaria, I haven't acquired any L series glass yet. After all of the cost of the scope, mount, eyepieces, and camera, I don't have any money left! Lol.

Here's another sample of some of the pics through my scope:

Thanks! I just got a new wide-field imaging refractor today, so I'll be taking some more photos really soon. I'm glad you folks like the shots.
