Just for the heck of it, I looked up "Vader" on a multi-language translator site, got some funny results:
Brazillian Portuguese = Ford
Spanish = Wade
Norwegian = Wade (same?)
Latin America Spanish = both Ford and Wade
Finnish = Raspberry
Hungarian = Savage
Turkish = Fixed term; Date
I have no idea if it's correct or not... but it's interesting.

personally i think it might have been a WW2 reference - the german 'vaders 'vadin france. (ancient slang term for invader if anyone didn't catch that...) if i'm right, it's not the only german WW2 reference there.
