Thread: Building a PVC saber?

    Default Building a PVC saber?

Hello I am new to these forums and to the whole saber building thing so please excuse any newbness. I was interesting in building a saber out of PVC. I am quite experienced with PVC as a material in general and quite like it. I have seen that a few people have done this, I was wondering if there are any guides for doing this. I would be looking to make it with a pink blade. Probably using a white LED with a pink color disc

Jay-Gon Jinn has an excellent tutorial for making inexpensive PVC sabers. http://forums.thecustomsabershop.com...st-page/page23

Just scroll down until you start seeing a ton of pics. It is a great starting point if you've never built a saber before. Be sure to read all the stickied posts in the forums first, as they will give you a wealth of useful information.
We all have to start somewhere. The journey is all the more impressive by our humble beginnings.

Well, the best way would be to use a RGBA Ledengine 10W LED. However, since you are making a PVC saber, I reccomend a white Seoul P4 and a Filter. You can buy filters that work fine here on TCSS, but LEE filters are the best IMO.

HEre is a saber I made using a White p4 and a lee filter...

Thanks for the information. I think I will just go with the Build Your Own Seoul P4 Electronics Kit. Question what is the difference with the viewing angles and the resistors?

Oh also random thought, has anyone made a light saber scythe? I don't think you would be able to make a curved blade but it could still be interesting.

The viewing lenses control the focus of the the led light. 5 degree is narrower, 10 degree is wider. I like ten degree lenses better personally...

The resistor you need depends on the battery source you are using, since you are most likely using a 3V battery pack you won't need a resistor.

    Gotcha.

    Well..
I guess it could be possible to heat some polycarbonate tubing, and use a led string in the tube to give it an illuminated effect. I know you couldn't do it with a luxeon led. The thing about the sythe though is it has a wide flat blade. That would be pretty hard to duplicate...

A few people here have talked about making flat and curved blades that light up, but I've yet to see someone actually try it.
