Default MHS3 - my first attempt at a crystal chamber

ok here are a couple pictures of the chamber unmounted. (waiting on more parts as always ^_^) i used a single RGB accent LED resistored to go from light purple to deep purple to red across the voltage/charge range of the Li-Ion 18650 cells i have an overabundance of. how's that for a PLI? ^_^

Fully Charged - light purplish white

when the battery is dead - blood red

i'll of course post more when i get more parts and get more done.

    :::EDIT:::
    adding some info

picked up an Obi saber and tossed that in there for sound. as soon as i get the pager motors i ordered i'll be channeling the LED output of the Obi board into the pager motor. when i get the pager motor i'll take it apart to paint it then. i did forget to get a speaker grille pommel insert so for now i have a piece of super thin pla plate as a placeholder, which kinda deadens the sound... i really need to secure the speaker to the pommel a bit better too... anyway, somehow it all fits inside the hilt. ^_^

and here it is all assembled! ^_^

and here it is all lit up! ^_^

I think its coming along great!.. and a nicely implemented idea. the clear 'tubes/rods' add to the whole overall look as well.

some tweak and fine tuning.. and it'll be awesome!

Looking good equinox! Nice way to build in a PLI.
I started tearing apart some old hard drives myself

That's actually a pretty genius way to do a PLI, and I'll probably have to steal it from you...

go for it. ^_^ i just used an RGB accent LED from electronic goldmine, 2 82ohm resistors for red and green and an 18 ohm resistor for the blue. you do have to use a single Li-Ion though. and i'm using a lower voltage main LED just so i can actually pull it all off...

I don't know that I'd do it for the crystal chamber, but perhaps for a crystal pommel, as though you were literally seeing the power core being depleted.
I'd want to keep it classic though, fading from green to red, rather than blue to red.

It's cool, but for some reason, that slanted crystal bugs me. I want to see it straight, and parallel to the rest of the chamber.

Maybe it's my OCD showing through....

J-Lo - it kinda bugs me a bit too, but i'm ok with it in the end i guess... definitely keeping my eyes open for others later though.

I like the idea and admire you skills & electrical ability.
I don't mind the slanted crystal, something artistic and non-tech in its asymetry that adds character.
It gives it a more personal feel rather than a mass produced component look.
I'm not too keen on the wires in the clear tube though have you considered painting, frosting or attaching foil to it?
Where is it going on the saber & will it stand up to dueling?
