Thread: New Li-Ion Technology

  1. #1

    Default New Li-Ion Technology

Article from Wired.com about using silicon (sponges) in Li-Ion batteries instead of graphite. It would give a Li-Ion battery about 10x more capacity.

    Good find!

Too bad it'll probably take another 5 years at least to see manufactured results...

I agree it may take some time... but that is the nice thing about technology--always evolving.

Great find, and... yeah, looks like it COULD be a better solutions vs. nanowires (which I hope ends up working, as it supposed could produce 100x or more capacity)...

Nice find, they intend to use it to improve current technology. I was checking out:

And they are easier to produce that nanowires, which means cheaper!

who knows. in 5 years we have rechargable batteries that hold 10-50x as much energy. in 10 years we have self-charging batteries that only need an initial charge. in 15 years we have self-charging batteries that can power everything you would need for a real lightsaber. in 20 years we have pocket sized self charging batteries that can power a house for 5 years. in 25 years we have those batteries that can power a house wirelessly.

^_^ oh what the future may hold.
