    Default Noslenpar's GNARITAS

    My First Saber
    GNARITAS

I finally finished my first saber last month and want to thank everyone on this forum for sharing their knowledge, without which I couldn't have built this. I think I tried to take on too much for my first build and if I had to do it again I would have listened to the experts on this forum who advise to start simple. I almost bit off more than I can chew, having never done any electronics soldering or dremeling I almost quit out of frustration a few times. The hardest thing was the wiring, figuring out how to wire everything and getting the right length wires to fit inside the hilt. I need a lot of work on my cram-fu. At 14 5/8", I think it's still a bit too long, even though it does have both a crystal chamber and a sound chamber.

The name, pronounced nar-ee-tas, means knowledge; as in practical, applied knowledge.

    So here it goes
    The Guts:
Hasbro Obi-Wan 2010 cheapie sound board
TCSS battery holder, Speaker holder, premium speaker
4 AAA NiMh rechargeable batteries (4.8V) & recharge port
    Soul P4 white
Crystal chamber with a quartz crystal lit by 2 blue LEDs from a computer fan (used the coils from the gutted computer fan as a prop in the crystal chamber)
    Red illuminated AV switch
    JWS-117-1 relay
TCSS Swing sensor replaced the original monkey head sensor

    The Hilt:
1 1/4" sinktube houses the battery and sound board inside a 1 1/2" sinktube with TCSS sinktube adapter at each end with openings cut out for the grips and crystal chamber.
The grip material is a Chilewich woven vinyl rug sample.
    Style 16 blade holder
Style 3 Pommel with Style 6 insert
    Covertec clip

Blade is a 30 inch Corbin style from TCSS with about 4 feet of poly added.

That's a very nice looking saber.

I know my first saber was long also (longer than yours).

Cram-fu is learned only via experience.

All those quick disconnects take up a lot of space. I know that i wanted to be able to remove everything cleanly, but now, every saber I make has fewer disconnects than the one before it Only the LED these days.

I really like the look of the grip material.

Ambitious first attempt but I think you pulled it off.

AK-47s and Lightsabers, both so fun to build

I think you've done really well for a first saber, it's very easy to be overly enthusiastic on the first build and end up with something you're not happy with just so you can say it's done.

I've done this and was never satisfied with the end result.

As for the cram FU, that will come with time and experiance.

    Well done.

Thanks everyone. I can't wait to get started on the next one.

I think your right about the quick disconnects, Arkhan. I'll try to use fewer next time.

Hey man, looks great for a first saber! Not sure if you know, but if you take out the "?action=view&current=" part of your IMG thumb, you will link directly to the image, and not the Photobucket preview screen
