Thread: Did I just fry my rebel?

Default Did I just fry my rebel?

Was working on a build using the hasbro dvd board. Using the wiring diagram that uses the pnp transistor etc. All was going fine. Fired it up, LED went on, then after several seconds, went off while board was still powered up. No smoke, nothing. Just stopped lighting up.

I realized after I had thought I was using a green Lux 3, but it was actually a rebel star (too many LEDs floating around the work area!). I had a 2.2 ohm 5 watt resistor in place.

I've attached other LEDs and they all are lighting up. But my green rebel is still no dice. So, did I kill her?

If you have a 2 AA battery holder put 2 AA batteries in it and hook that up directly to the LED. That will be 3 volts and will let you know if you fried it or not. A 2 AA or 2 AAA battery holder is a great troubleshooting tool and is great to have around. It sounds like you may have fried it.

Yeah...that was 1 of the 1st things I did. Grrr.....

I've got 4 other LEDs lying around, but the little girl I'm making this for must have GREEN!

Pay better attention you must. Resemble closely a Lux III, a Rebel does not, for one who is aware of they are doing.

Learned a lesson you have, I say. Have you not? Hmmm?

Your set up shouldn't have killed it though. They run the same as a LUX III. So there may be another reason it fried.

That's what worries me. I'm going to hook up a new LED and same thing will happen. I've been over it 10 times and can't see anything wrong. Nothing is getting hot, nothing....I'll look at it again tonight. Grrrr.....

It could have been a weak LED to start with. I have had 3 out of 5 Red P4s go bad in the exact same set up. I have been using Red P4s for a while now and this is the ONLY times I have had problems with them.

    It's ALIIIIVE IT'S ALIIIIIVE!!!!!!!!

Turns out it is not fried. One of the solder points was not soild. DUH.

Of course I've now ordered a green P4 I've no use for....yet. Had to order some other stuff also anyway. Yeah...that's it. Rationalize it away.

It wasn't me, Yoda is a little dyslexic. He typed that. I guess it's hard to type with only 3 fingers that have long nails on them.
