Thread: Will it fit?

    Default Will it fit?

Hi folks.. need some insight on a build for a friend.

I need to use a 2AA Battery Holder, Speaker Mount V3, & Basic Switch in the 'Body' of the hilt. Will this whole mess fit in the 5in Double Female Extensions, assuming the hole is drilled as close to one thread side as possible?

Second point would be, is a 3in Extension long enough for a Maul 2006 Sound Board to be mounted into?

Final question, I know.. fun huh? If using 2 14500 Li-Ion batteries with the Maul Board, how do we keep the board from getting fried by the 7.4v power of the batts? A resistor on the battery line leading to the bat+ on the sound board?

    Thanks all.

first, it will all fit with some skilled cram fu. The tricky thing is going to find a place for your batteries, they won't fit in the battery holder...

Second, many members use a 5v regulatorto protect their MR boards. Some searching should find you a schematic.

    Hope that helps.

Thnx for the info CC. The 14500's are not the same size as standard AA's? That's news to me since I have a 2AA Battery Holder in one of my sabers and it has 2 14500's as a power source.

It's the battery holder that makes it longer. You gain like 3/8" by eliminating the holder and making a pack. Of course, then you'd have to wire in a recharge port. A 5" extension has 3 3/4" of actual "hilt space" in it ( counting the space needed for the speaker holder lip) but not if you are having the emitter and subsequently the heatsink mounted in it. I regularly make chassis with a soundboard speaker and battery pack that fit in 3 1/2" and certain switches will fit in with that. Like mentioned above, serious cram-fu required, but it can be done.

As to the second query, that all depends on what pieces the 2 inch section is connected to. The Maul board is the longest of the FX boards as it has a little "neck" area at the LED connector end so that it fits in the Maul hilt right. Most FX boards are right at 2 inches long by themselves, the maul is like 2 1/4" long or better. A 2 inch extension, if only connected to regular male ended pieces and not a blade holder or speaker mount, will have 1 1/4" of usable space inside. Hope that helps.

    Default Argh-h-h!

No one else has said it, and it's driving me batty, so here goes:

    "That's what she said!"

Lord Maul, feel free to delete. I just had to get that off my chest.

No one is up to that challenge more than you, J-Lo.

I don't know if it's the heat or what, but it seems like many of us supposed-grown-ups (myself in particular) have regressed into full junior-high-school mode.
