Thread: cyan tri-led

    Default cyan tri-led

I would like to make my mhs saber in cyan but looking on www.luxeonstar.com the cyan doesn't seem to be very bright. But there is the tri-led option. but with this comes another problem- you can only get an 18 degree lens for the tri-led setup. Would this work or would I not get a bright, even blade?
should I just give up on cyan and go to my second choice, Royal Blue?

How much space do you have inside your hilt?

The Tri-Setup loses a lot of light regardless of the lens, and might not be significantly brighter than the single setup.

If you have the space, you could go for a 10W...

Other than that, id go for a normal blue if you want brightness.
The Royal Blue loses some of the light in the UV spectrum...

For Cyan I would say Lux III - got one and it's uber bright - much brighter than the mixed RGB I tried. Granted, some would say this is due to the optics and yes, they do make a difference. Unless you're using a relatively short blade, try not to go more than 15 degrees for the optics.

As mihunai said, the alternative is to go LedEngin RGBA or perhaps Seoul RGB? Where all the dies are located underneath a single dome - get better results even with just the plain Luxeon optics (at least for the seoul). Actually, I think LedEngin is probably overall a better way to go than the rebel RGB just cause you *can* fit everything under a single dome.

okay, I'm curious how does a rebel compare to a lux III or V?
just trying to get an idea if going for a blue rebel over a cyan lux III is a good idea

also, I hear the 8.5 degree lens looks best?

Don't let the stats fool you. The lux 3 cyan is pretty nice. You're better off looking at pics here to judge how bright they actually look. Lumen stats and appearance can be very different.

Actually, pics can be quite deceiving as well...

Different camera's, lighting, distance... I think Novastar did a big post on that...

One thing i have noticed is that the reflection in windows (with the lights off)
seem to look pretty much like the real deal.

Ill see if i can find an example of such a vid...

wait just a second. cyan, blue, and green leds except for rebel(which doesn't come in cyan) are gone. I heard the lux IIIs are being cancelled, would I be safe to assume they will not be in stock again?

If so, I will need to make some slight changes in plan...

The Luxeon Rebel LED's come in the full spectrum of colors that the Luxeon III's came in. Strydur simply doesn't have all of the colors in stock yet.

The Lux III LEDs have already been discontinued as of a couple of months ago. So they won't be restocked.
