Thread: 2x Maul conversion: Red or White?

  1. #1

Question 2x Maul conversion: Red or White?

I've decided to (after few months) get double maul FX lightsaber. I also have decided that I am to convert it.

So, it leaves me with a question what color LED's should I use?

    1. Lux III red would be underpowered, and not very bright

    2. Seoul P4 red would be fine with the board, but it's not bright even if it gets what it wants

    3. Seoul P4 White (NO FILTERS) would be powered almost perfectly, and it's definitely bright

    4. Seoul P4 green would be powered correctly, but I don't like green.

    5. P4/Rebel blue/royal blue would be also powered correctly (?), but does blue look good with maul hilt?

Right now I'm drawn to the white P4..

    Thank you all for answers.

As weird as it would be to have blue blades in a maul, I think it would look really good. There are tons of conversions with reds, but i havent seen many blues out there. I also agree with the green, its bright but meh.

I say Blue Rebel, 'cause they're really bright .
Not Royal blue. Sure, its a nice, rich blue, but not a bright.
Just avoid red. One thing i hate about my Vader FX saber is the tendency to turn
pink when there is too much surrounding light. Blue will just become a lighter blue.

Thats one reason i like green. It stands out, and doesnt fade to pink or baby blue
    when outside during the day/evening.

What makes you think that P4 reds would be a poor choice? The Maul board puts out between 1 and 1.2A which is over driving the LED and it is PLENTY bright @ ~110 Lumens. It is nearly perfect for a Lux III red as well (1.4A) which will provide ~140 Lumens. I do a ton of reds for folks and never a complaint (unless you get a Maul board that only puts out 850mA or so, then go P4 red. I have a maul with Lux III cyans and it is beautiful (and bright) as well.

I have red lux 3's in my double Maul and with a decent poly blade they're as bright as my US 2.5 driven 3 Watt RGB's.

Obviously white will seem brighter, but you can't have a Maul without a red led. IMO

Oh and the Maul blades are a touch thicker and won't sit in the blade holders tim sells. I'd get some new blades with some polyp wrap. They'll be much brighter.

You can see in the link how dull a MR blade is in comparrison with the purple in the other link below, which, when I use them in my Maul are just as bright.
