Exactly my thoughts. If a sealed container could be found water cooling might not be too crazy. Use a peltier to cool the water while it's not on...
Countdown, a fan isn't that bad of an idea for people that like motors in their sabers. It's the size that's been an obstacle.

There's 10 watt flashlight torches that I found. Maybe you could convert the flashlight or salvage the led from that. I can't find 20 watt that run on DC currents. All the ones I found are like halogen bulbs or something. I believe those run on AC currents.

Most ones in flashlights are crippled by how they are put in there and are horribly under driven. It's a possiblity though...
