Thread: Converting a Rubies saber

    Default Converting a Rubies saber

Hey, I'm thinking about converting a Rubies Halloween toy Obi-Wan saber to an LED, by basically stripping out all the insides and figuring something out for a blade holder.
I know it's cheap plastic, but it's the closest thing I've ever seen to a non-replica TPM Obi-Wan saber that's not ridiculously oversized like the Hasbro.

Does anyone have any comments or advice? Better yet, if anyone happens to have one sitting around, could you measure the ID for me? I threw my old broken one away years ago...

It just so happens I have one - minus a few parts. the inside diameter is 1 1/4".

I guess you could make a saber sleeve out of aluminum pipe/tube, and mount everything to it. It would have to be 1" ID and 1 1/4" OD. Not hard to do.

    Thanks a lot. [] *bows*

Now I just need to find one... I think my friend has an old one buried in a toybox somewhere... I'll see if I can get him to dig it up.

I've been trying to think of something to do with mine... tell me how that conversion goes.

Will do. I think I'm gonna cash in on the "anniversary sale", pick up an MHS saber, and stuff the electronics into the Rubies saber before I build the "real" one. If it works, then I might buy another basic electronics kit and blade for it...

Rubies is a brand. They are more often sold in costume shops (as that is their primary products, costumes). Their toy sabers very wildly from okay to downright crappy.

I hope this isn't too inappropriate for this thread: there's a guy on the fx-sabers.com forum selling an EL TPM Obi-wan hilt, I think it was made by Parks, for $250. It looks really great, and I wanted to buy it, but can't afford it, and associate more with the sith anyway.

Nightwing, I'd certainly be interested in seeing your progress on this. I have that Rubies saber and had started gutting an MR Anakin Fx to fit inside (not a Lux I know but, a conversion nonetheless). Haven't done much with it lately. Seeing your progress might motivate me to finish mine. Good luck!
