Thread: pvc thread tapping

    Question pvc thread tapping

I'm new to this and have just about completed building my first saber(dueling saber). I built my hilt with 1 inch sch 40 pvc. My concern is that I'm not sure if the threads in the pvc that my blade screw goes in would be strong enough to hold up to dueling.
Does anyone know from experience how well pvc works for this? How about if I were to tap the threads through both the pipe and pipe connector?( my saber is shaped sort of like this ----=- with the wider part being a pvc connector) Is there anything like a small bolt perhaps that I should put against, or in the pvc to take some of the strain off the plastic threads when dueling?

    Thanks for the help!

It covers a simple PVC build technique.

The more course the threads, the better. We built close to 300 PVC stunts, and none of them had a failed blade set screw. We used a 1/4X20 tap and set screw.

If you're new, please take the time we all consider just as precious as you and READ!
