Thread: buckpuck alternative

    Default buckpuck alternative

The sabers I've built keep a consistent 1" ID throughout.
Understandably, that makes for some interesting cramming, where flexibility is essential.
My thought process here, is a physically flexible alternative to the rigid buckpuck, that also happens to be much more precise and customizable.

The LM137t is an interesting little ic that resembles a typical transistor, that when used in two simple little circuits, allows for very specific voltage and current regulation, regardless of a variable source (i.e. rechargable batteries).

    For voltage:

For current (up to 1.5A with this model):

Wouldn't using one of each, in series, allow for a constant power supply custom tuned to your exact LED?

There are many places where you can make a driver like a buckpuck for about a dollar. (Instructables is one...)

However, in lightsaber use they aren't as applicable because they are weaker and take a looooong time to make.
Got a Question? There's a thread for that...
