Thread: what's the difference in Green?

Default what's the difference in Green?

I'm in the process of wiring my final hilt (taking a break for awhile). I'm using quick connects so I can easily change the led color...I'm mainly gonna use the Royal Blue Cree xre i wired (as you'll see once I finish complete my hilt and post the pics

I ordered a Seoul P4 green led and wired it up (using 4AAA batteries and a 1000mA puck and heres what I got>

Cool, kinda of an "erie" green...but I remembered my first saber I bought from saberforge...it was insanely bright...It lit up the whole room! It was awhile back but I remember he made it with a Seoul P4 green led.

I found this pic of it from halloween last year (saberforge green)

Honestly, the picture doesn't do it justice...it was REALLY bright. I sold it awhile back. As you can see, it looks a bit "whiter" than the one from TCSS...could it be that he sold me a white Seoul p4 with a color filter?

If you had the specs on the other saber it would help too.

Maybe the saberforge you had was overdriven? More power to the LED could make it brighter.

I don't know exactly how he wired it, it was all one piece...it also took 4 AAA batteries.

I know their are different Seoul p4 bin #s, but that doesn't explain the intensity

Just thought someone would know from the pic...

Just fyi for anyone who wanted to know>

I e-mailed saberforge and this is what I got:

There are two levels of seoul p4 leds.

They are sorted by bin numbers, the brighter ones are more expensive, but noticeably brighter so we go with those.

Also we usually overdrive them by about 10-15%.

    Yama...

Saberforge is partially correct, but some important things should also be taken into consideration...

    * LEDs that are within the same bin #... AND EVEN FROM THE SAME COMPANY... can be different

    * Each LED has its own unique "luminous flux"... which is... essentially the vibrance(?) of the color--sort of the really crazy "aura" it emits... or rather, if it does not (as much)

    * Yoda (FX-Sabers) and I have discussed at length that you can find the following:

    • "Poor" Luxeon Vs that perform "worse" than an "Uber" Lux III
    • "Uber" Luxeon Vs that out-perform most anything we "normally" see. I have an example--that Luxeon V blue people have seen in my vids...
    • Luminous flux is not "controlled" by most companies. In other words... you cannot CHOOSE what luminous flux you get--within reason. You get a RANGE... not an exact. And some of the ranges are rather large
    • As if that isn't complicated enough... ok... let's say you have a "whiter green". It's GENERALLY visually going to appear brighter than a more "deep green". HOWEVER... if you get a cruddy "whiter green"... and an uber "deep/foresty green" (or whatever)... there you go.
    • Not enough? Well you have driving too. Driving @700mA, 1000mA (for examples) and "over-driving". And also--your heatsinking plays a part. Too much overall heat WRECKS LED performance
Whew!!! I know... it's a lot. But... this is how it goes.

The moral of the story is... it's hard to know "which LED is 'the best'", since there are WAAAAAYY too many factors that are subject to ranges/change/variance.

Furthermore... photos and video?!?! Oh, PFFFT. Don't even trip, lol. They'll NEVER tell you the "true" story that your own EYES will. Every camera is different, and cam exposure times are different... so those add even MORE variance. *Oy*

Hope it helps... although it probably just complicates things. lol!!! Sorry... it's just the world of LEDs.

You should also appreciate your eyes, that can see all those pretty light wavelengths.

WHAT?!?!?!? SHUT UP, OLD MAN! Never mind old Obi-Wanna-KnowLED--the old hermit fool!!!!

J-Lo is right... your EYES are indeed the "best test". At least... what she said---that's exactly what I think. Sadly... no video, no photo, no comparison will ever tell you the "true truth".
