Thread: Keeping Blade in Hilt?

Well, it looks like Random Sabers prefers to use a Headless bolt that's secured by an Allan Wrench, so there's nothing that might get hit by another saber blade.

What's everyone's opinion? Headless Bolts? Or the standard Thumb Retention Screw?

    Its personal preference.

If the Retention Screw adds to the design then I use it. Also retention screws don't require tools so it makes it easier to deal with if your not carrying the right wrench. My current Sith sinksaber is going to use a headless bolt since I want to hide it.

Yep, it comes down to preference and how it works with your design. One of my stunt sabers has a thumb screw, the other has a set screw.

Well, I think I'll try out the Headless bolt first. I love the streamlined look on a saber, plus it'll help with dueling.

I used to be an avid user of thumbscrews because I hated the idea of carrying a hex wrench wherever I went.

But the problem for me was that since I like to do spins during my forms and even dueling, the thumbscrews got in the way. I switched over to headless set screws and haven't gone back since.

Oh, and I have hex wrenches at both home and work...
