if you do end up using rivets and then down the track decide to remove them, the best way to get them out is by drilling them out. get a drill bit that is slightly bigger than the inside hole of the...

i think you'll be able to make an arm strap fairly easily
maybe a couple of covertec clips with the belt attachments, then attach a strap to each them.
