Yeah, my first thought was that with a white FoC, (1023,1023,1023) might trip some protection circuits, and really, the effect is more about having contrast rather than an increase in brightness. I...
I've heard a single color on a 2-strip NeoPixel blade can easily eat up 5-6A of current, and a full-blast white can trip the protection circuit on some cells.
I whipped up a quick calculator that...
The "1023" drive settings are just an arbitrary scale, not an actual measure of current since Prizm. Total current limitations are going to be up to your resistors, with each channel supporting ~2.5A...
Yeah, if you *have* to go RGBW, the Cree XML star is a better option than the MCE, but the XP-E2 RGB still wins out.
Updated this hilt with some unstable day blades:

Main blade is basically some 40" clear thinwall bladestock, hollowed pointed tip, 4-5' of cellophane diffuser,...
Ditch the 14500s. The only reason they work now is because the buck puck is *limiting* current. Your Tri-Crees aren't running half as brightly as they're capable of (the 1000mA puck is split between...
Pretty much. Top shroud used cutting and grinding bits to hog away most of the material. Cleaned up with needle files.
Bottom shroud was actually gluing bits on, rather than carving anything away.
When I built my own cross guard, I balanced things out with a Tri-Cree main blade at full power, and single-breasted for the cross guard at half power each. Trouble is, the tri gets uncomfortably...
On the blade tips:
1) Removed the mirror (tips light up a bit better, but still dimmer than the blade - light focuses to a ridiculously bright spot at the point)
2) Bored out the inside (Tool...
Ah, I just made a bulk order from one of those Chinese wholesale shops. I figure you can score these things anywhere though. Just about the same as the tactile switches TCSS carries though, just...
Thanks!
Customised the bullet tips to get rid of the dim-tip-with-bright-point issue. Modified tip on the left, standard Bullet on the right.

Thanks a bunch! Just got the faux wires installed:

Onto the day blades~
Had sprayed a base coat of black earlier in the week. Spent last night on detailing:

I've got a photo for each pass of detailing, so I should be able to knock...
Ah, no need to forgive. Part of the build is a full set of bullet-tip red day-blades, so I'll have things in order in a couple of days.
I'd started this build back when the Force FX hilt was near-impossible to find at MSRP and the US Flamberge was the only ready-to-ship crossguard design. Figured I'd knock out a PVC crossguard for...
Could just run the blade all the way down the choke until it hits the heatsink. You might also want some clocking washers to prevent LED rattle without the blade, since the choke's 0.1" too short to...
Perhaps, but if you're using a Tip42 transistor, you need the same voltage going to the board and the LEDs, so you can't use the 5v on the board while sending the full 7.4v to the LEDs. You'll get...
Used to text posts, so only skipped around the vid a bit.
I'd def stick with the 20mA DynaOhms, since that's the typical limit on accent LEDs. Also, if you think they're bright now, just wait...
This is the completed gallery post of a Graflex saber I've been working on the past few weeks.
You can view the build thread here.
I originally received this piece as a copy of the Icons ANH...
Wish I could take credit for the crystal chamber, but the saber already had it installed when I first got it.
Machined a new stand though - same template as usual, but black acrylic, engraved...
TFA Edge Connector arrived in the mail last weekend:

Machined and painted my own Graflex Pin blade plug:

There's only about a 1/32" gap between the two if you're using SCH 40 pipe. 1" pipe has an OD of about 1.315", while 1.25" SCH40 Pipe has an ID of 1.380".
You could layer things a bit differently....
Thanks a bunch!
Just a standard MR Vader board with one of those cheap 3W RGB LEDs. Control Box switches handle the color-changing.
NanoRex, I thought it was a neat detail about Ahsoka's introduction in the Clone Wars movie - her hilt had a modified Graflex emitter, but the pommel was detailed after Obi-Wan's first/second hilt,...
