How can you be born of sith seduced by the light side? I don't quite understand. I've been actually thinking about it for a couple weeks, everytime i see it. Are you saying that you were born on one side of the force, but was seduced by the side that takes painstaking dicipline and almost total repression of one's self? I mean, it sounds like a fundamentally flawed idea. Especially cause when someone's lost to the dark side they lose who they are, how can you go from that to fanatical purity and death to one's self? I know i sound like i'm a complaining nerd (don't mean to), but i'm honestly just wondering if you have a little story behind that name or something.

Tim,
Taekwono is right...from a certain point of view [:D]. First, I was born in Transilvania - the real Transilvania, and we all know what that place is known for in popular culture. To be precise, the village of Harman, district of Brasov, country Romania. Second, my father is an evil man, not exactly a sith since he's pathetically week, but definetely dark side - completely self centered, hating anything that is not his mirror. I chose to be a tolerant, self educated liberal. To promote good and expose wrong. Idealistic? Sure. But I feel better in earth toned soft clothes than in leather and buckles[;)]

jurneyman, I'm not that uptight [;)]. My wife thinks I take all this SW stuff a bit too far, but it's all just fun and games in the end.
you sign Tim. a different Tim, not Strydur, right?

ok, heres some pics of my newest project. its a heiland synchronar flash handle which has a blast-tech vader conversion kit. its one i had now for several years. i used a sound board i got from ultra to power the lux red/orange 3 watt led.
i will get some pics in a bit of the handle itself theses are just the blade lit up.
the first 5 are in a dimly lit room. the other 5 are in dark. not much difference as its so darn bright anyways.

this is by far the best saber i made yet. and the light effect from the base is just like the movie poster i remember from years ago. cool as heck. and i was amazed at just how darn loud the sound turned out. its way the heck louder than my MR vader. i couldnt believe it. i'll get some pics of the hilt in a bit but for now take a look at my results and tell me what ya'll think of it.

Looks like a comet shooting thru space[:p] I think its looks awesome, really bright!

hey LAN-ED-TUL, is the sound board you got from Ultra one of those flashing Hasbro ones he was selling on eBay, or something different altogether? i've never heard of blastech either (other than from the Star Wars Sourcebook back in the day, lol). nevertheless, a b**chin' saber you got there, very bright[8D]

Those look like o-rings.?. If they are simply take them of and wipe them down. If it is something stuck to them use an automotive product called brake clean applied to a rag, then wipe them down. Just be careful not to use a bunch of brake clean on them as large quantities can cloud the color and (in excess) even melt them. It is a trade off really, the stuff can harm delicate pieces and burns like no other in a cut, but will clean anything.
Cain
P.S. If you want the o-rings to stay new looking for a long time use a thin, very thin coat (applied by rag) of oil.
-
yep its one of the ones ultra was selling off ebay. i was really surprised as to how loud this thing was. i dont have but about 1/2 inch of echo chamber between speaker and end cap. i'll get some pics of the handle and post them . the speaker fit in the end of the tube with just a tad bit of sanding around outside edge of speaker. no harm done to speaker at all.
im glad y'all like it. i think it turned out nice. i will however, change out corbins film, which is in the blade right now, for tim's tube once he gets them in stock. on the underside of the tip i used the reflective mylar adhesive backed film corbin sent along with film. no modding to the film, just stuck it on underside, centered up.

ok, heres some pics of the hilt:

in the following pic the small lil button is the momemtary switch. i was able to utilize the existing place where that red button was. i would of used one with a red button but i burned it up whilst soldering, so i used the black one. what i might do is drill out the bottom of the red button thats supposed to be there and place it overtop the black button with some epoxy glue. that big knob looking thing next to it is a allen socket bolt. i tried to make it actually go down in the recess, but if i drilled it out, it would of not looked right either. and possibly even broke into on me. what i might do there is take the socket head and try to grind the head down smaller to fit.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...ervader026.jpg
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...ervader027.jpg
this is the endcap which had a insert in the middle for the bolt. on the inside of the cap i ground that off flush, then drilled a ring of holes around it as shown.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...ervader028.jpg
another pic of the lil switch and allen bolt. also you cant see it but on each side of the black emmitter housing theres a 8/32 bolt drilles and tapped in through it into the holder. i have about 4 8/32 screws in all securing the holder and painted them black with a magic marker. thats why they dont show up. plus, a crappy camera dont help.

LAN-ED-TUL-
so that endcap allows enough sound out to be loud? that's cool, i was wondering how much drilling would be necessary for that to work. were you able to get around the "flashing blade" thing that Hasbros do?
btw, that site you emailed me about, i've been there before i just didn't remember the name offhand. i thought that guy hadn't updated the thing in like 3 years...he's still selling stuff?

Nice![:D] I need to fix my clamp though. I had a resin version that broke. I'll just be buying a screw replacement from blas-tech.

yeah, i was really amazed at just how loud. if you unscrew the cap the speaker is just pushed in flush with the threaded end of the main tube. when the cap is screwed back on theres really only 1/4, maybe between it and the end. that hole in the center you see, is where that threaded plu insert is for mounting to a camera bracket. it serves really well as a d-ring mount if you leave it as is. but i had to have the clearance. the insert would of been against the speaker if i had not cut it flush with the inside raised section.
as far as drilling went, well, by cutting that plug insert down flush that opened up the hole in the center and as you see i just drilled a ring of holes around the outside of it, thats all there was to it.
as to your hasbro flashy question, no, i didnt bother with trying to eliminate that. i kinda like it myself. so i just wired it up the way ultras instructions said to do. and another thing, if i has used my original sound board i ripped from a anakin color change saber, it wouldnt all fit inside. the card was a lot bigger in length and a bit wider too. and didnt have the motion sensor at all. this one has it all.
problem is those 8 dollar sabers were never in any of the wally worlds in my neck of the woods and i didnt even know about them till i read about it here. so i missed out getting a few of them to make great system with. i just tried to get another one from ultra but got outbid. that first one i got for this saber only run me 20 bucks which is the same as the 20 buck saber i ripped the first board from. so, yeah, it cost more than 8 but not any more than was available round here.
im glad to hear that you guys like it as well. the kind comments are appreciated.
thank you all!!

It took me a while to understand, but now I know why the sound is so loud, much louder than when the module is mounted in the original plastic handle from Hasbro. It is the bube BEHIND the speaker that gives you all the ressonance, not the measly 1/4 inch you left in front of it. If you look at the speaker itself, you will see the plastic cassing has holes drilled into it. The membrane's vibration is sent behind the speaker as well as in front of it. Just FYI of this little fact I discovered.

thats probably true. theres not much empty space behind there tho. the battery pack ir right behind it along with wires stuffed in there too. not alot of empty space for echo chamber effect from the back. but hey, its loud, and thats all that matters. much louder than a MR in fact. i tried turning both of them on and it drowns out the MR completely.
-
The tube acts like a speaker cabinet. lows require alot of cabinet space and highs require little. i put a MR speaker on a hasbro board cause i broke it and was diappointed. Radio Shack sell the exact hasbro speaker just to let you know and the 20 second sound module has one just like hasbro as well. be nice to have a grille or somthing to protect it alittle better. I would use them if that could be done.

Maybe Tim could make an end cap with a built in grill or something similar?

This new mod Hilt System of Strydur's is cool! Check out the sink drain emitter that screws right on like it was made for it. Iguess the bathroom sink parts will be hard to find soon. here's my progree so far but it's far from done .
I'm using a 5W White Luxeon so i get alittle more brightness than a 3w. White is the hardest to project.

you know what i think. yellow saber blades have been outlawed by the council, as the crystal used gives the blade a rather powerful benefit.
but regardless, the hilt looks pretty nice.
-
Well, as a matter of fact Jedi, I have already drawn blood with those points-my own...I learned fast not to jam the blades in while not looking. But I learned while doing auto work that if you do not bleed while doing a job it probably wont work right...

I think you're doing an awsome job. That's what I call a true Sith design, so who cares what the council thinks [:D]
A couple of suggestions:
1 - the screws used to attach the ...hangers(?), are they phillips? Consider replacing them with hex heads, they look better.
2 - the edges where you cut with the Dremmel look rough. Maybe sand them by hand with a fine grain. Maybe it's just the picture, I don't know.
I just love hardware sabers, much more than wholly machined ones. Tim's modular sabers are an excellent starting point, but too many stop at just that. Yours are better than any I've seen in a long time. Keep it up!

something i like to use for bolts is sometimes using button head screws or they also have some unique style screws that have to use a special lil bit to screw them in or out with. yeah, i know the lil bit can be expensive, but with a weird lookin style screw head, it can make it look futuristic in its own right. my friend used some that had 2 tiny holes and the holes would cover up with a tiny lil flap of steel built into the bolt head. made it look really neat. just an idea i thought i'd pass on.
LAN-ED-TUL

Gelu, Yes the are hangers of sorts, I guess. They were made to tie up the cord of window blinds[:D]. Yes the are philip head screws, but only for now as they were out of the ones I wanted. Dont worry I planned on changing them. And they were already sanded with fine grain so it is just the picture, I am just pleased the pic didnt come out fuzzy[:D].

Great Saber!!! I also think the use of everyday items to dress them up is in the true spirit of the Lightsaber. The originals incorperate the same style and imagination. Thats what makes these things truly works of art. Lets face our sabers look better than some sculptures and paintings. Keep up the great work!!!

Jedi Ranger, that's a great idea. I'd love to contribute to that thread.
tetmatek, he's refering to the blur. All but the last are quite blurry. If your camera doesn't have a "close-up" setting you compensate by turning up the exposure rate to be longer. Both need for you to have a steady base. A tripod isn't necessary but bracing your arm or camera against a solid object is a great help.
