Mace Windu Master Replica Help

I'm trying to repair the blade of a Mace Windu light saber. The LED strip has disconnected from the board or power supply in the hilt. I've followed the directions, found on this site, and have gotten to the last step where you pry off the slide switch cover. I am having trouble removing the black plastic piece below the slide switch cover. This seems to be the only thing preventing me from pulling out the blade. I've tried prying up each side of the black piece, but they just bend and i'm afraid it will break. The light saber has been occupying my kitchen table for too long. HELP
