Those are not LEDs, that is EL wire. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electroluminescent_wire
That post you are quoting was from back in 2006, and most people nowadays do not use EL anymore, but for a bunch of boards on the subject, check the following two section of the forum:
http://forums.thecustomsabershop.com...-basic-EL-hilt
http://forums.thecustomsabershop.com...uild-EL-blades
Yes I know. I am 95% sure that those strips on the hilt are made out of the same EL wire as inside the blade. The board sections I linked to contain information on wiring up EL wire, you would just have to apply those concepts to the hilt instead of to the blade.
If you google "EL wire" you can see many other uses of EL wire that look pretty similar to the Hilt's Strips
This started out as a Starkiller from Jedi Master on Etsy, I wanted something a bit more "me" :) my first "custom" saber.

Pommel insert is the blade plug from 2010 Obi Wan R/B lightsaber (Hasbro)

Thanks for looking :)

That is beautiful btw. What did you use for the blade plug? That's like the exact design i need for a arc reactor crystal chamber for a ironman lightsaber im making.
Thank you! Sent a PM about the blade plug.
