This is an EL style saber am I correct in this? If I was to remove the blade and cut the led wires, placing a quick connect in there would this damage anything powering on w/out the blade connected?

someone correct me here, but im pretty sure the Makoto style uses strings of LEDs, not EL

Um, that second question that made no sense to me.
Makoto style blades are indeed LED strings. You need to read up on those some more.
Also, EL and LED electronics are not compatible.
LEDs run off of DC.
EL runs off of high frequency AC current and needs an inverter for that.
