Lightsaber Cane Jamie Snell

OK its time for another Sidd's Saber Customs Original.

I was approached by artist Jamie Snell to build a Lightsaber cane as he recently had hip surgery and wanted a Star Wars themed cane for when he is at conventions and such.

The design is pretty straight forward, the only real challenge was the pommel part which Saber Concepts machined for me.

The cane itself is MHS parts with a Seoul P4 lighting the solid Lucite shaft.

Looks great Sidd. Very nice Saber Cane. Hey, those pommels look familiar. lol

That rear grip section is pretty awesome.

Oddly enough as heavy as it is, I can spin it pretty easily cause that massive pommel offsets the solid "blade"

Realy like that, will have to get me one when I hit the age of needing one.

Wow, I want one, sure beats the cane I am using at present. I might think about doing my own. It would certainly make for safe walking at night (no street lights round here).
Did you get the solid 1" blade from Tim? Love that really sturdy pommel.
Is there a mirror in that rubber end?

Glad to see someone do another Cane saber. It is a great feeling to make something to be used by one who needs it right? Good Job.:mrgreen: BTW, the blade can be a heavy dueling blade with diffuser and it is plenty rigid.

Cool...a curved hilt would have worked nice for a cane too. Funny that I've always seen canes as potential weapons. Must be all those old kung-fu movies..lol. Having it lit people would be more aware of you and you could see where you step better. "Brilliant"

Tim doesn't sell acrylic rods.

I doubt a mirror would do much at the end of a solid rod.But you never know.

That acrylic rod lights up better than I thought it would.

I did put a reflective disc in the rubber tip but i didnt see that much of a difference.

I was very very impressed at how well the solid Lucite lit up.

Remember that acrylic is brittle. That is why I told you what blade I used in my Cane saber. It's owner still uses it on a daily basis.

Actually LDM i went back to the site he bough the original cane that i made the blade from and its not acrylic its actually Lucite which chemically is PMMA .

I was wondering about that. An acrylic cane seemed like an oxymoron. (I say that as someone who has both tried to work with acrylic, and uses a cane. ;))

Check out E.W. Barton-Wright's Self-Defence with a Walking-Stick (published in 1901) and Andrew Chase Cunningham's The Cane as a Weapon (published in 1912). Then there's the French martial art known as Canne de combat. I've been intrigued by this sort of thing since I starting using a cane, but in my case, even a clumsy whack on the head with the German silver handle of my ebony cane would do plenty of damage.:p

Pretty slick, huh? I figured if I had to use a cane, I wanted one that served as a fashion accessory as well. ;) I just wish I had splurged on real silver instead being stingy and going for German silver, which requires constant polishing. :(

I'd love to make a lightsaber cane that is 1) comfortable to use, 2) can pass for an interesting but tasteful cane when turned off, yet 3) actually look like a lightsaber when turned on.

Maybe after I've finished the dozen or so projects I have on my plate now, I'll make that my next project.

Thank you! I love my cane, but it wont light up now. I have opened it up, changed the batteries, check the wiring, etc, but it wont light. :(
I dont need it really anymore, but its awesome to say I own one. I had a replacement hip surgery done last year (April '10) and did need to use
a cane last summer. I am a LFL Star Wars artist, and why not have an awesome custom cane. :)
