About BlessedWrath
Biography:
Hi, all.

I am a 30 year old hobbyist who enjoys making things. Ever since the first day I picked up my pliers and began making maille (often called "chain mail"), I knew that I would want to expand that knowledge into other areas. I have also studied the art of whipmaking, and have become decently proficient with crafting 550 Paracord bullwhips. I really am happiest when I'm elbows-deep in parts and tools. I am also a tremendous fan of the original Star Wars trilogy. As a natural result, the day I saw the first Luxeon LED sabers on the 'net, I had to remind myself to breathe.

For myself, Star Wars has been much more than just a movie. It's been a tale of the struggle between good and evil, a warning against the tendancy to allow our darker emotions to sneak into our ethics and way of life, and as a cautionary tale against the allowance of any individual to gain enough power to oppress others. Because of that, and how I feel about the story in general, it only makes sense that I'd want to learn the complex and beautiful art of sabersmithing.

I have no delusions of skill or competency. I know it will take learning multiple related skill sets to even begin. That is part of the challenge. I read, I ask, I learn, I theorize. Maybe, one day, I'll be able to post a custom job on the site. For now, my studies have only just started.

My first goal is simple: To connect a power source, LED/Heatsink, and soundboard, with the appropriate switches, and see if it works. If it doesn't explode, I intend to move on to more advanced wiring, such as Flash on Clash. My first hilt is looking like either a ROTJ Luke clone or an empty hilt from "the other guys". It really depends on which is cheaper, or my financial situation in the next couple of weeks.

I've read up on several threads to gather the necessary knowledge. I think I'm ready to take the first baby steps. When it's done I'll post my results.

I must take some time to make the following statement, as it has not become clear by my weeks of study on the subject of sabersmithing.

I am not a person who just wants to be handed everything on a silver platter. When possible, I enjoy puzzling things out and coming to my own solutions. I have the dedication and tenacity to pursue a solution wherever possible, which is the only real reason I ever got anywhere with my bullwhips.

I've read, I've studied, and I've reread and studied again. And I will continue to do so. This isn't a subject that can just be summarized and memorized; it's an evolving art form as well as a science. I realize that.

As a matter of fact, I'd been studying the subject for some time before I even considered joining the forum. This also isn't the first forum I've joined, and not the first forum focusing on sabersmithing either. Please do not assume I've just jumped in without doing any reading at all.

Please understand that, if I ask a question about a particular topic, it isn't because I've decided I can't be bothered to do any research. It's because I have either tried and failed to find the topics, or because the information I've received has not been delivered in a format I am capable of understanding.

It's not my intention to annoy anyone with pointless or unimportant questions. I am a newcomer. I just don't know these things yet. Please be patient with me. I'll try not to step on any toes.

I am currently building my first saber, which looks to be a simplified Luke ROTJ, powered by an LED Engin 10w GGGG. I've already wired the internals and am waiting on the funds to order the hilt pieces and other parts needed.

I'll say one thing for this hobby: It's addictive!
