So, I'm in the process of building a new hilt. It's a very simple exterior using a 10" double ended fem piece with the Qui Gon like blade holder. I'm waiting on a shroud I'm having made and in the mean time I'm working on the inside of the saber. Wired up a couple of leds to go with the crystal chamber below. This piece takes up around 60% of the lower hilt. It will mate up with an upper section chamber that will house the battery/lux driver. Fixed disconnects on both ends mean that the pieces will simply plug together when inserted. Aside from the shroud I'm having made I've decided the outside of the hilt will have no other "clutter". A smooth and simple design meant for battle. More pics to follow as progress is made.

Wow that is an elaborate chamber. Are you going to cut holes in the hilt to show all that bling.:)

The bottom of the hilt about an inch above the threaded section may get a 1 1/2 inch length window for most of the crystal to be viewed. It depends on what the shroud looks like slid down over the extension though. I tend to build non viewable chambers that keep the wiring nice and tidy while still having somewhat elaborate do-dads on it. I just like knowing there's something cool inside.

I believe it is smoky, tourmaline polished quartz. It has some thin black bands in it. The overall color is smoky green. I tried lighting it with different color leds and found that red makes the black bands irridescent from certain angles. The pictures make both the 5mm led above the crystal and the smaller one in the upper section look orange. The larger is in fact red and the small one in the upper section is orange/yellow. I found those colors make the copper wire coils look like they are giving off heat.
This is the hilt it's all going into. Yep, it's very simple. I am having a Qui Gon shroud made out of aluminum tube by one of the accomplished sabersmiths out here to slide over the body but other than that it's unencumbered. I've taken a lot of time with the blade installed to swing this thing around. My hand always finds a comfortable place whether swinging/spinning or moving from a strike to a block. That's why I've called it my true battle saber.
