I saw that ultra are selling the fx soundboards pretty cheap thought. So i emailed him and asked if they could be installed int the MHS and the next day I got the answear, yes...
He said that it shouldn't be hard att all, and my question is, HOW you could install them, just hook then up on it, or what?

EDIT: ...and how to tho a pommel with speaker holes?

I'm a fourteen year old swedish teenager...so be patient...

Try the FAQ section and the Thread Index for the answers you seek and Ultra will provide hook up instructions if needed.

It'd be just like the tutorials assuming he sends you one of those boards. I need to ask him if you can actually request a certain board, or if he randomly gives you one...

There is a thread by Firebird here that is about putting speaker vents. Pretty much drilling on most of the pommels.

EDIT: If that thread isn't indexed tell me... it should be.

Ultra is using the MR sound card and speakers from Radio Shack. The one switch that is already there will work for both. He drills holes in the standard smooth end pommel. I am having him convert my MHS saber right now. The cost is minimal at $60 and since I can't do it myself its much better for me.

There is more than one "MR sound card" which is what I'd like to know. Could I request a Vader if I bought one?

Whatever, we'll see what Tim is going to pull out of his sleeve. If it's MR boards HINT, HINT^^^

I know that I like the sound from my Anakin (05) much better than my Vader (05).

The Anakin has 3 clash sounds and 3 motion sounds while my Vader only has 1 clash and 2 motion.

Also the Vader takes forever to power down.

If I had the choice, I would go with the Anakin all day long.

Edit:
Here is a sample of my Anakin saber that I recorded.

Yeah, we can gripe on MR for the silly things they do, but even so I may want a "sith" sounding one and that certainly isn't the Anakin. Who knows it may not be MR boards, but that's the most likely option.

I can't wait to see what Tim has up his sleeve! Could be an end cap for the MHS that is drilled out for the speaker, similar to end caps that MR uses.

^I think it's more than just a pommel with holes. I'm crossing my fingers for a full "sound kit" or something.

xwingband
05-23-2006, 04:36 PM
Tim did posted a pic once of a MHS endcap that was prewired with a speaker but I think that somewhat loses the appeal of interchangeable endcaps.

I think a much more interesting thing for the MHS would be a speaker section. It would securly house the electronics and have "speaker vents" on the side. This would go in place of the extension piece.

I'm expecting something more mundane and would be satisfied with just a sound board, but suprises are welcome.[:)]

The best thing would to have a couple of choices, not just a sound section or a sound card.
Cause if you don't want a longer MHS than you already have, (like me) a soundcard would be the best. Especialluy if you just hook them up on the rest of the electronics and and then just power the hole thing one, with one button

Does anyone know what sizes the fx sound cards come in?
I would need it to be an inch or less (like the Hasbro Vader).
Am I dreaming?

I have a 2005 Vader and the sound board is 15/16 wide by 2" long. My dad has a 2005 Anakin and I think its the same size.

The Quigon style hilt i did has an anakin mr board installed and a MR speaker that was removed from the battery pack. With 4 AAA it is loud! I just drilled some small holes in a cross pattern to let the sound out. All my sabers have sound cause a quiet saber battle some how loses excitement.

but since I am just fourteen AND swedish me would really like something like a "how to install sound stuff for idiots" tutorial. and then there's a couple of image floating around of the soundboard, Ultras image is som round thing but Tims is something else...Could somebody here just tell me what is what and how to what...[:D]

Well, the electronics you can mount however you want... that's no different than say the driver. I just got my pommel #4 and confirmed my suspicions... there is enoungh room to cut out slits in between the first and second ridge from the top.

I haven't gotten to the electronics but from what I can guess this is enough to let out the sound quite well and have some benifits: it's less noticable and sound comes from the sides not the bottom.

I have the Anakin '05 MR saber and I have to say I don't like the sound of the saber at all. Do you guys know if the sabers have different sounds? (like vader vs. luke vs. maul etc.) I'm getting a custom saber made and I really don't want to use the anakin board I have.

P.S. I read the thread index, and I didn't see it there.

EDIT: Ok I see they have different sounds now, but does anyone have a recording of them? I'd like to hear the different ones for myself before I invest in a board. BTW does Ultra let you pick which one you want if you buy from him?

The vader has a deeper sound which I like best, but I don't have aany recordings of the different ones. Check with Ultra if he has different sound boards in stock then it shouldn't be a problem. Ultra is very helpful as is Tim and Corbin, the top three saber smiths in my book. [^]

ok, here's some more exact info...
this is what I got:
3 watt green lluxeon
one 2,2 ohm resistor (the one tim sell)
4 AAA battery pack (also tims)
all this installed in a MHS hilt (don't care for the speaker holes)
the question is then: do i need some more to keep it at 4,5 volt? and if so, where shuld I place the resistor?

Do-Clo
06-28-2006, 12:42 PM
You will be fine with the setup you have no other resistance will be needed as you will not exceed the max current of the led which is 1000 ma and your set up will run at 1000ma.
