Anybody have any ideas for some Dark Brown/Black boots to use for a Jedi and/or Sith Costume? I found some simple dark brown boots, but I want something with a little more detail, like ribbing or buckles or the like.

Any suggestions?

I personally got a pair of street motorcycle boots for my sith costume.

Other than that, you're basically looking for a calf high boot. Most recommendations I've seen for Jedi boots are to buy some kind of riding boot. There's also cheaper (and you get what you pay for at times) costume boots available. Check ebay under "Costumes and Re-enactment Attire"

You could always just buy some simple boots and embellish them... Add buckles, ridges, etc.

second boot from the top is what I use for my Vader. They're nothing spectacular but they work.

Don't buy the cheapest ones. Spend no less than $120 on boots.

They'll be better quality & last longer. I know many people are on a budget with costumes, but the boots & Belt are things you can't scrimp on.
They often make or break a costume.

For my next Sith Costume I plan on using my motorcycle boots, real weathering by actually using them :p - they're my wet weather boots but I haven't ridden my bike for around 2 years.

On new boots, perhaps. In this case used is superior in every way IMO. You get better boots, for less money, and they are already "weathered." I've bought 5 pairs of Jedi boots from ebay in the last year and paid between $44 and $80, shipping included. The $80 pair is over 50 years old and built like a tank. With a bit of patience and $60 on Ebay you can get a pair of Jedi boots that will last a lifetime.

I've been thinking boots over for a long time. Boots are an essential part of any costume and should definitely be given their due. A while back I came across a good tutorial for "making" some Jack Sparrow Boots. You may not be looking for pirate, but the principles in this tutorial are good for any cosplay boot. Take a look here:

http://www.sithcamaro.com/boottut/

This is probably what I'll go with for my first boots, but of course I'll design them a little less Sparrow, and a lot more Corran Horn.

Hey, what do you guys think of these boots as Sith boots? I kind of like them. I'm just looking for opinions. Thanks in advance.

very cool, but I think you should take off the metal tag on the heal if it is a logo or brand name. :-D

That is exactly what I was thinking. In the description it says that tag can be removed by unscrewing it.

Those look pretty Sithy, to me.

It looks like the buckles may also be stamped with a trade name or something else non-Aurebesh so you might want to replace those as well...otherwise nicely Sithy imo.

If you want to replace those buckles with something that looks a little more Star Warsy, I'd try either these...

Or these...

Those Tandy buckles are way to big for use on boots. I think they'd look weird. I have one of the larger ones that I'm using on a belt.

It would be a hassle to change those buckles. The easiest thing would be to just grind off the name with a Dremel and maybe paint them black.

I'm just starting out on my Jedi costume but my biggest issue is boots since I'm a 12 wide/extra wide. I was wondering if these,
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280444549195&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
would work for a formal, generic Jedi submission? Or does the V at the top eliminate them from contention.

I didn't think the small ones would look too bad as a replacement for the buckle that goes over the top of the foot, but I guess I'd have to see the boots in person to be sure. I agree that they are too big for the first three straps though.

I don't think the shape of the tops of those boot will work, Dakarn. They just look too cowboyish. They look a little on the short side, too with the way they are cut down at the front and back.

Maybe if you could make some sort of spat or greave to go over the front of the shaft they might work.

But as is, I would say no, not if you're maybe thinking about doing a Jedi costume for the Rebel Legion.

Thank you for the input on the boots. I think they're pretty sithy. I like them, a lot:D:D

Thanks Loreen - its my eventual goal to submit for the Rebel Legion so any boots I buy need to fit the requirements. At least I'll have some leeway since its a generic submission.

Time to find some other boots out there in internet-land.

Hey everyone sorry for resurrecting this post. But I thought some of you, (especially those of you who are as cheap as me) will find this an acceptable, less-expensive boot option. I found these at my local Wal-mart in the shoe section. The black boots have a logo on the side but I'm sure that could be worked around. I bought the brown ones, they look pretty good. They're made of rubber and come in child to adult sizes. They range from $17-$24 a pair.

Rubber boots aren't great for when you're costuming all day, especially in the humid summer time. They don't breathe and the sweat from your feet and lower legs has nowhere to go.

Boots filled with sweat are not what I'd care to experience. :p

That is a good point I wore these last year for Halloween and even in fall tempatures these boots got a bit warm. But I wanted to post them because they are affordable, especially if you have kids doing Jedi costumes. For anyone who wants a more comfortable, more authentic style then these aren't the best choice.

Jedi-Loreen

Yes, I understand why you posted it. I just thought I'd give my warning for people to think about.

These would be good for kids, because you're probably not going to want to buy them more expensive leather boots that they'll grow out of in a year.

If you want to get affordable leather biker boots, i found these (http://www.next.co.uk/shopping/shoes/boysshoes/2/2?extra=sch&n=children&pid=731-682&exclude=00U00%7c00UA00&returnurl=%2fshop%2fcat%2dboots%2dgattgender%2dold erboys%2d0%3fx%3d1%26nxti%3d0%26nxtv%3d0%23731%2d6 82&bct=%26quot%3bShop%20By%20Product%26quot%3b%26nbsp %3b%26gt%3b%26nbsp%3bBoots%26nbsp%3b%26gt%3b%26nbs p%3bOlder%20Boys) at next. they go up to size eight, and are low-calf boots

Jedi-Loreen

8 isn't very big for men's footwear. And they actually go up to 13.

This isn't a very good endorsement:

thats childrens 13, one size below adults size 1. It's a UK site, it may be different to the foot measurements across the pond.
And yes, Fire Bad :D

Jedi-Loreen
08-21-2010, 07:28 PM
Well, I guess that explains why the higher numbers were on top. :p

In the US, they would have had the children's sizes labeled as such.

I guess you Brits don't have big feet, then. ;)

galen marek
08-23-2010, 11:26 AM
heh, nah, to be honest those boots are in the childrens section, but some adults such as my uncle have feet like, size 6.
and ooh get miss "ooh lah-di-da we label our shoe sizes here" :P i joke

I'm thinking of doing a Luke ROTJ "Death Star" outfit. I found some great photos of the original costume at various places online. They look like 40's era German officer's jackboots, in the "So I see you have constructed a new lightsaber" scene you can even hear the hobnails clinking on the catwalk. There are various WW2 reenactor places to get them.

Bought a pair of black Engineer boots. painted them brown with acrylic paint. thinking of stripping it off though and repainting with Oil paint though, the acrylic looks too much like plastic, hoping the oil paint will absorb more into the leather and look better. No idea if it'll actually work, but figure its worth a shot
