Here's my latest creation using the MHS. This sleeve was made similar to Qui Gon's style of hilt. I will add some type grip material to the largest cut out and paint the MHS ribbed extension. Electronics are nnext then disassembly for paint. I'm thinking green LED and Green Multi-Tone paint for the rest.

informlmyx...nope the sink tubes just slide over...at least that is what i have read.

Yep, that is correct. I have tried several sink tubes and they work just fine. They come in several nifty colors. Chrome over thick brass, chrome over thin brass, white, black, brass and copper. That gives you are lot to choose from. You can also buy aluminum tubing for this as well. I actually prefer this to sink tubes because they are thicker and the edges are not as sharp after doing cut outs. Beware of buying some tubes. They are same size as the MHS tubes. Bring your main hilt section [the one with the hole for the switch]with you to check.

Nothing Special done to the hilt itself. Just cover the sink tube in tape; draw your cut out design and cut it out.

I want to do a brass sleeve for mine.I already have the design worked out, should be fairly simple to do, since I already have some experience in cutting on sink tubes. [:)]

Plus I won't have to worry about scratching the chrome finish, if it doesn't have any in the first place.[;)]

I actually plan on making a few different sleeves that I can easily slide on and off with out having to move the switch out of the way.

Different looks for different LEDs, emitters and pommels. [8D]

Dude! Who wants a saber that looks like everyone elses? Unless of course you are doing a 'face' character. I personally am getting a little tired of being asked "Are you Obi-wan?" by kids and adults alike. I can feel myself being seduced by the Dark side. I want to yell, "NO fool, I'm Darth [fill in the blank]! It's time to die!" then cut them down with my Lightsaber. [}:)]

Hey, that looks pretty cool, now that you've painted the sleeve.

I didn't want to say that I wasn't too impressed with it in the first pics. [:I]

Is that some of that special color changing paint? Obvious question I guess, considering that it looks like it's different colors in different light. [:p]

Nice looking saber the paint has really helps define the cut outs in the sink tube and with the mhs section being painted it gives it a classic look sorta like Qui-Gons saber but different.[^]

The sleeve paint shifts from green to blue. It is hard to get the camera to show the different colors.

Nice.[:D] I'm making a HUGE tutorial and the sleeve is going to be painted too. Not fancy color changing, but painted none the less. Tutorial is 11 pages and counting (Sans pictures and detailed appendix[:0]).

Speaking of painting sleeves, does anyone have any pointers to approximate the paint on the hilts found at the following: www.advanced-light.com ?

Any help would be appreciated...

You don't need to see any identification.

Just a guess but it could be truck bed liner spray to get the texture and then spray other colors over it and seal it with a clear coat.

The color you are refering to is called pearl or true pearl pearl has 2 colors it's the cheap spray can stuff true pearl can change into several colors and is horidly expensive and then there is also transparent pearl for spraying on clear plastic so it changes colors and you can see through it I don't know much about that one.

I know about ChromaLusion but I have never heard of pearl.

But of course, I suck and if I want something painted to actually look good I just call Tet.

That particular paint is not pearl. It is actually microscopic prisms in the paint that, well, work like prisms… They bend the light and produce a rainbow effect. To be even more technical about it, these paints do not have their own color! What you see is the light bouncing back out of all the prisms. Unlike regular paint that “filters” the light you see.

Pearls themselves are a not-so-sophisticated prism that is designed to change the Hue of the paint (the color you see from an angle vs. head on). And no, there is only one color to pearl. The other color you see is the Base Color showing through the pearl Top Coat, giving the illusion of multi colored paint.

Now you could get all technical and say you can put pearl in the Base Coat, but it’s essentially a cheaper way to try and get the same results. Not to say that those colors aren’t spectacular, but they are muted.

i know i have an mhs saber 13 inches long but to me i think its a long saber, if you compare it to a maul fx its about 3/4 as long as that. hehe just shows that mauls are small :)
