I'm sure someone has probably come up with this idea already, or figured out why it will not work but...

The Clamp Concealed Crystal Chamber! Or "The CCCC" (affectionately referred to as C4!) I am planning on this one being my personal saber :D:cool:

Any Questions, Comments, Suggestions etc? I am planning on using a typical bubble card to allow for the LED in the CC to shine through. I however, have NO experience with clamps so may be missing some fundamental piece of knowledge here...

I may not have been the first to think of this, but I sure hope it works because I am EXTREMELY fond of the idea :D

hehe, if you take the crystal chamber out of the middle you have the same shape as one I have in the works! http://forums.thecustomsabershop.com/showthread.php?t=9246

Go for it! I like the idea of covering the chamber with a clamp, use a crystal focus and it would be called a C5!

I don't see any reason why that wouldn't work, you would just have to be careful not to scratch your hilt when you move the clamp back and forth.

So it is! lol, great minds think alike ;)

The clamp has the possibility of scratching the hilt? I figure its smooth on the inside so as long as I am not trying to pull it off while clamped it should be just fine right?

Once again, i have NO experience with the clamps, you just slide it over the piece and flip the lever to lock it in place right?

There are tabs on the inside that you have to file down. The clamp sits a little lose on MHS parts so you may need to shim it some how.

What I said about scratching the hilt, it should be all right if you don't let it slide around freely.

It's a really cool idea, can't wait to see it.

If you use a Graflex clamp, even a replica, there are four tabs on the inside that are used to hold the flashgun together and line up the two halves. You would have to file them down to fit over an MHS hilt.

Even if you tighten the clamp screw all the way, you would probably still have to shim it somehow. The Graflex body is bigger than the MHS parts are.

Edit to add: In case you didn't know, the replica Graflex clamps are in stock right now.

Great idea if you can pull it off. It doesn't look too comfortable to grip unlees it's low on the hilt. Maybe if the clamp was on another angle. Not that I'd know just speculating.

The switch will be an AV unless I can figure out a way to recess the switch properly, so my hand should fit below the clamp just fine. Problem is finding a good Purple AV :p

The AV Switches with the bezel are actually pretty comfortable to hold, if you can get the switch proper to fit in the cup of your hand.

That was my line of thinking...I looked at a couple places for Purple AV's but couldn't find them where i usually look for my AV's. If anyone has any links feel free to PM me.

*edit* Any word on the MPP clamp? Never used one before...

I've never used a clamp before, either.

I know FenderBender has used purple switches, you might ask him.

Edit: Searched google with 16mm Illuminated vandal switch and found these:

The same site has purple switches with silver housings.

I have one of Tim's MPP clamp I picked up a while back, and it is smooth, unlike the Graflex clamp, and it also comes with an internal plastic shim that, myself, I just leave on. The shim is cut so to leave a window for wires, light, or whatever to pass through from the saber.

looks like a solid design, and i (with my lack of building experience) don't see a problem with having the clamp over the chamber.
