Mostly they just buy already chromed tubes and stuff.

I usually wrap some tubes in aluminum foil tape for simplicity.

But this will be an interesting thread. I wanna learn about polishing and different finishing techniques.

Gelu's saber isn't "chromed" either. It's a gold finish, probably brass laquered, that he found from a lamp. If you didn't want to take a part already like that you'd sand and polish a brass tube then clear coat it.

You can't really chrome on your own either. It's a nasty chemical process.

Also sorry countdown, I got mixed up and pressed the edit button instead of the quote button. They look too much a like.[:I]

Has anyone used the chrome paint?
I'm making a PVC hilt for my kid and am going to use the dutch boy spray.

I haven't used the dutch boy stuff but I've found that chrome paint likes to wear off no matter what. Doesn't seem to like being painted over by others unless you are careful and resist the urge to put thick coats on.

Chrome Paint is nothing more than very fine metalic paint.

It's never as good as they make it out to be. The Chrome can cover is plated, which will look nothing like what comes out of the can.

You can buy a platting wand it plugs into an outlet and you attach it to the piece you want to plate and dip the wand in the solution you want.Run it along the piece. You can do chrome silver nickle gold black chrome you can do almost anything. Its pretty hard though you have to get the hang of it and it dosn't work on certain things. But its cool.

To do aluminum you'd have to copper plate, then nickle plate, then chrome plate. Or say to hell with plating and get your saber anodized.

I found sink tubes in the follow materials:

Thin walled chrome over brass.
Thicker walled chrome over brass.
White plastic
Black plastic
Brass

I think they may also come in copper. I'm checking this for myself later this week.

Countdown pay attention bud. Zhi-Don pointed out the first two which are the most common were chrome-plated brass. He is correct on the PVC and bright brass as well. It is a little tougher to find but you can get copper 1 1/4" and 1 1/2" pipe as well. Normally found at actual plumbing suppliers used more for the trades then retail but they are more then happy to sell to individuals as well.

HMMM....Copper pipe over MHS, sounds like a winner.
