Has anyone made carrying cases for their saber? I'm considering making one, and although I'm resourceful I'd like to know if anyone else has gone to this length? I'm thinking of making one that is a hard shell case with padding like a musical instrument.

I also thought something like a pool cue bag, or martial arts weapons bag might do for the blade.

I believe I've read in one of the threads that someone has used a rifle carrying case to trnsport their sabers.

Or a carry case for a bokken or other martial arts practice sword.

Here is the one I use. I have been able to put 9 sabers with blades and 14 sabers with out blades in it. Plus it is only $47 http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4303558

cool..the rifle case is bigger then i"d want. I was thinking of one saber hilt myself, but for safely storing and transporting several it looks ideal. So there's no form inside of it just tight foam padding? And it all stays in place?

hehe....don't bring this through customs...gun case full of pipe bombs..lol.jk

I got a pistol carrying case from my local gun store: www.hoffgun.com

It has four layers of foam, two egg crate and two with cut outs (to mold to your equipment). I can fit 2 DL-44's and 5 or 6 (depending on style) saber hilts. and it is only a bit bigger than a boot box.

Someone over at FX-Sabers forums makes custom carrying cases for lightsabers. They are pretty sweet. Sorry I don't have a link right now but I'm sure their search function will find it for you.

You can find inexpensive pistol cases that work great.

mmm....ABS tube with end caps cut in 2 with hinges, a clasp, padding, and a handle or shoulder strap.

Thanks for sharing all the great ideas but I prefer to make stuff when ever I can and I think I'm onto something. I like the box idea but a tube case would nice too. And painted the same color as my saber.

If I may recommend, I think South-Pak, Inc. makes a carrying case that would be perfect. They have a website full of custom case options (http://www.south-pak.com/solutions/custom-cases).

I just bought a new BBQ set the other day, and was thinking I could convert the case into a Hilt travel case.
It already has some velcro straps. May needs some other mods later.

Plus they are always on sale in the summer.

There is also the option of a hard style fly rod case. They come in tube style and the conventional flat box style. There are skads of them on ebay and most large box store sporting goods outlets carry them.

I carry all of my sabers in a large rifle case. It works really well for me.

I use jo staff cases...they're about 4' long and are padded inside. They are only big enough to fit one saber, though.

This wouldn't be good for traveling on a plane, but for going back and forth to my "lightsaber class", I use a fabric fishing rod bag. I can carry 2 shinai and 2 bladed lightsabers in it.

I also like because it has 2 shoulder straps and I had my board name embroidered on it.

Now that is pretty cool, I have been thinking of painting my name on my case. I think this is what I'm doing tomorrow now.

I made one using thick PVC pipe, a screw on cap for it, and a permanent cap for the bottom. Then I lined the inside with foam, and I had a carrying case for any of my future sabers.

I'm gonna be using a pelican rifle case for carrying sabers. Heavy as neuranium, but those cases are near invincible.

Uh, I hate to tell you this, but this galaxy doesn't have neuranium. ;)

Really?

But really, those Pelican cases are tough as nails. If you have a really expensive saber, Pelican is the way to go to protect your investment.

How much are those Pelican cases?

Depends what you're buying. If you're getting a rifle case that holds blades and hilts, you're looking at around $200. If the average blade is 38" long, and the average hilt 11", a 1750 (longest case, goes for about $220 to $250) would hold near 6 hilts and probably even more blades. I wouldn't expect the blades to need padding around each side, since there isn't anything fragile in them. But if you want to carry only hilts in it, then you might want to go for a smaller laptop case or summin'. The laptop case comes with pick-n-pluck foam, so you just pull out little cubes until your sabers fit.

The long weapons case comes with three solid pieces of foam. A top layer for the lid, and two for the bottom. The very bottom is to be left alone, and the other layer can be custom cut to fit your sabers. Or, you can go online and order a custom sized pick-n-pluck from here (http://www.foambymail.com/packaging.html).

Here's the 1750: http://www.boss-safety.com/shop/pelican-long-cases-1750-series-c-532_480_519_520.html?utm_source=yahoo&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Pelican+Long+Cases+yahoo&utm_term=pelican%201750

Here's the smaller one for just hilts: http://www.boss-safety.com/shop/pelican-1490-protector-case-with-foam-p-1627.html

Phone pics, sorry about crap quality. My mom borrowed my camera for a trip and it was stolen at the Holocaust Museum... Of all the places.

It's a good thing that you protect your ruler in that case. You never know what can happen to a ruler when you travel. ;-)

No problem, and thanks! Not too long from now, one of those Anakin's is gonna breathe life into another saber. Bitter in the death, sweet in the salvation. ;)

World's a dangerous place for rulers, man.
