Ok so I know the standard is PolyC, but I was cruising around looking for slightly less expensive solutions and found this:

[link removed. Woopsie.]

My question to y'all is would it work?

I think I may do just that... I'll let everyone know what I think!

the only thing i would be cautious about is that if it is the same as regular pvc, it's not going to be good for dueling... raw PVC hitting another piece of raw PVC = PVC shards everywhere due to shattering. Been there, done that

it might be ok for a show blade ONLY. But should probably post warnings saying not for dueling usage. because PVC fractors MUCH easier then polyC and can have razor sharp edges. where i use to work we had heat pumps for hot tubs in a PVC housing and how we got them out was kinda fun. but messy and dangerous. (i used proper PPE so no danger for me :D)... simply slammed them on the ground and the 1 inch thick PVC housing goes flying everywhere, we take out the coils because they are titanium and resold at scrap dealers. oh. and WOOT 100th post! :D

Just so you know, in the link you posted, the listed price is $3.07 per foot, so a 3 foot long section would be $9.21. Polycarbonate is only $1.53 per foot. It's sold in 8 foot sections, but is still cheaper than the PVC. You're better off using the Polycarbonate. For expense reasons and for safety reasons.

Folks, this topic is not appropriate. Posting links to competitors products on a forum attached to a store which carries said products is poor form.

SHAME ON YOU.:(

BTW, Psab is right and you can get 40" of poly-C in the store for $8...that is pretty cheap.;)

And continuing LDM's line of thought, I will lock this thread.
