Has anyone had a problem with this, or is it just me?
I finished my saber, but one thing I noticed was that it leeches the battery even when not on. I put a new 9v into it, had it on for a few minutes, then turned it off. About an hour or two later, I try to turn it on again, and the battery is completely dead.
Any ideas on where I went wrong?

where did you wire the switch into the circuit? if you wire it onto one of the output wires, there will still be a complete circuit from the battery to the inverter.

I'm not sure, but thinking back, I bet that's exactly what I did...silly me. I got too impatient on finishing the blasted thing... I'll check, but I think that's where I went wrong.

its gonna leach the battery no matter what, its still sending power to the inverter just not as much.

If you have the switch between the battery and the invert you wont lose any more power than the battery sitting there by itself. I have had a battery sitting in a test saber for 5 months and it still works fine.

yep, it only sucks the power if you put the switch on an output, i had the same problem when i was a total newbie [:D] it kinda makes me feel better that i am not the only one with that problem.

Does anyone have instructions on where and how to wire the switch. Sorry if it has already been explained, but I could'nt find it. I know absolutely nothing about electronics and new to this, so help would be appreciated.

If you have one of the new inverters just hook the switch to the 2 black wires. Just take one of the black wires on the inverter and solder it to one of the switch wires. Then connect the remaining black wire from the inverter to the remaining switch wire..all done. Cant get much easier than that[8D]

I just finished hooking my hilt wiring up about 25 minutes ago, and I noticed the battery (9v) is getting very hot. How can I reduce the heat?
FYI, a simple diagram of my wiring:
mono jack--1MOhm resistor----inverter---220 Ohm res.---battery

The last post of mine didn't place the switch where I typed it....it, of course, comes from the two switch wires off the inverter, not from the jack...

Why do you have two resistors? You only need one for inverter protection after the battery goes straight to the inverter.

Strydur, I placed a switch between the battery and the inverter. The battery started getting EXTREAMLY HOT, I thought it was going to explode. I wold love to find a way to prevent the drain when the switch is off. What kind of switch is it?
Can you draw out a wireing diagram or take a pic of what you've got?

That is odd as ever... you could always use a zenier diode to keep flow one way. You are using a inverter bought somewhere else? The one here has battery leads.

It was a 9V inverter from Coolight. It came with 9V leads. Firebird is right, if you are heating up that bad there is a short across and you want to find that first and formost since no matter what else you try if you still have that you will continue to have problems.

From what you are describing, you wired the switch in paralell and therefore when you turn it on it is shorting, you need to have the switch on only one leg either + or -.

Ahh... yes. If it's not it should be wired between one of the battery leads not both. Pick one, + or -, and splice the switch into it.

That's what I'm thinking... When the switch is off it creates a complete circuit.
When you turn the switch on it shorts the battery and starves the rest of the circuit of power.
That's why it appears to be wired correctly, but the battery heats up.

<font size="3"><font color="purple">I think that people sometimes forget, or don't know, that a circuit it is a circular path both from, and back to the battery. A switch interrupts that pathway (preferably along the part of the path going directly from or to the battery) of that circuit, that's what it's for.
Hooking up the switch to both wires from the battery defeats the intended purpose somewhat and causes other problems.
Some people may think that power comes from both terminals of the battery and ends at the part that is being powered from it and that's not the way an electrical circuit actually works.</font id="purple"></font id="size3">
