This is what happens when your wife says "go help your father in-law before he hurts himself" He was removing some fence posts. While we were pulling one it snapped off.

Tim, I'm a Nurse and a Combat Medic. I've sewn up lots of scalps in my time, seen lots of head injuries. It looks to me like you might need some stitches. You should hop on over the local Doc in the box and let them look that over. Did you lose consciousness? Are you having any nausea or headaches associated with this injury? If so you may need to get checked out for post concussive syndrome. P.S.

Don't make her hunt you down. You wouldn't like her when she's angry. Since she lost her job last week she's been kinda twitchy.

That thing's nasty lookin! I said a little prayer for you. You'll be fine. Hey! I have a funny fence story: When I was doing landscaping, a guy and I were trying to pull up a steel fence post. We couldn't get that sucker out! We thought that it was just rammed into the ground. There was a bunch of gravel all around it, but we determined that it must have concrete at the very tip. He came up with the bright idea that I could pull on it while he pryed with the shovel. I guess we were willing to try anything other than actually digging out around the post. So he pryed with the edge of the shovel while I grabbed the the post close to the base, with my face just over the shovel head and pulled. I think you can see where this is going... As I pulled, I made one of those "I'm straining hard" faces with my teeth bared. All of the sudden the edge of his shovel popped off of the base of the post catapulting a load of gravel straight into my teeth/mouth. It felt like my mouth was getting sand blasted with large pebbles. I would've sworn that I had a mouthful of broken teeth. Well I didn't, but I had to spit out more dirt and gravel than I've ever had in my mouth. The other guy just laughed. I was just relieved to run my fingers over my teeth and, amazingly, find no chips or broken teeth. [:D]

Damn, I wanted to say that! [:p] But I was at work when all this came down.

I hope you're doing ok Tim and that you did get it checked out.

I don't think it looks that bad, but, better safe than sorry when it comes to head wounds. And I'm not a Medical person, though my dad is.

Ok, so he's a dentist, but he did have to study the outer parts of the head and all parts of the face quite intensely, as you might imagine.

I know that scalp wounds can bleed a lot. My dad says it's because there are so many blood vessels and capillaries (that supply the hair follicles and such) and that the scalp it so tight to the skull.

When I was younger, and stupider, I accidently shot myself in the side of the head with a BB gun (don't ask, I thought it was empty, I removed all the BBs. Boy was I surprised!) and that little hole bled a lot and wouldn't stop for about 20 min.

The BB finally worked it's way out in about 6 weeks, but the copper coating was all corroded and there was this pinkish-white spot on it, which I think was bone fragments, because I could feel it slam into my skull once it passed though the scalp tissue when I shot myself.

Now that I have everyone grossed out.........[xx(]

I had a TV fall on my head once...

Free fall from 4 feet.

I was about 4yo at the time.

More blood than pain, that I can remember. It was more traumatizing to have the Dr.s and nurses tying me down to the bed to put the stitches in. I was like "I'm squirming because I Don't WANT to be tied up!”

Yeah, that didn't help my case any.

I love those finger wounds… The ones that you get when you bash your finger and you get that flap of skin…

The first thing I do is Rip that chunk right off! As much as I can get!

I’ll go back for more if I have to!

The idea is to get it off before the Blunt-Trauma-Numbness wears off. (That means you have about 10sec. to hack that Flapper off!) That way it’s easier to clean, and less likely to get an infection because the entire wound is exposed and can be cleaned, and kept clean easier. Rather than that flap turning the wound into a Kangaroo Bacteria Pouch.

OK, now that the squeamish are back from the bathroom http://www.gaownersclub.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_puke.gif lets get back to our regularly scheduled program.

Tim, if that were my head wound, I'd throw some rubbing alcohol on it and get some Duct Tape.

theres this stuff called collagen, i know i spelled it wrong, but in the war, it was used to seal up gaping wounds in the field. its a liquid. now in more modern times you can get it at the local magic shops, they use it for making real lookin scars and such. i freaked people out using it, i would make a scar with it on one side of my face for a week, then switch to the other side , i got the weirdest looks, and had a few say to me, wasnt that scar on the other side, i said nah, your just imagining stuff. lol i had fun with that stuff.
